Reflection Paper

The Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges presents to us the Marketing Me Live last March 22,
2023 with its AM Session consisting four topics: 1) Online Applications by Mr. Kim Chua of
Jobs180.com, 2) Acing the Interview by Ms. Shena Filomena of Innodata, 3) Hiring in the New
Normal by Ms. Ma. Cristellita Estillore of IQEQ, and 4) Top Skills Employers Look for When Hiring by
Ms. Sairah Joice B. Gipanao of Makati Medical Center. On the other hand, PM Session consists one
topic which is the Labor Education by Atty. Veronica R. Serrano.

First speaker, Mr. Kim Chua, the managing director of Jobs180.com discussed about
Resumelink. According to him, it is a personalized URL for resumes that can be viewed online at any
time. The second speaker, Ms. Shena Filomena of Innodata shared some interview tips and the four
options to be considered after graduation which is, (1) continuing education, (2) taking a gap year, (3)
starting to own a business, and (4) getting an entry-level job. Third speaker, Ms. Ma. Cristellita
Estillore of IQEQ said that STAR interview method stands for Situation, Task, Action, and Result. The
fourth speaker, Ms. Sairah Joice B. Gipanao of Makati Medical Center talked about the top skills that
employers look for when hiring. These skills were communication skills, leadership skills, self-
management skills, learning and adaptability skills, computer and technical skills, and problem-
solving skills.

This Labor Education Session is very timely and relevant as it gave me a realistic preview of
what lies ahead. I have learned that using Resumelink, I need to make my profile interesting and
attractive for employers, put only the significant information, and to keep it updated. In terms of acing
an interview, I need to do a research about the company, prepare fo the typical job interview
questions, need to be on time, bring resume as well as cover letter, dress appropriately, smile, show
interest and passion, and to not forget to say thank you. I also learned that the STAR interview
method is a helpful technique that I can use to answer behavioral interview questions in a structured
and more compelling way. Furthermore, I just need to have a positive attitude, be calm, and have a
strong work ethic to complete a task and manage work effectively even when no one is regularly
checking my progress. I feel that I am better prepared to enter the world of work after this session.

topic which is the Labor Education by Atty. Veronica R. Serrano.

Atty. Veronica R. Serrano discussed that Employer’s rights, Worker’s rights, PHIC and SSS
coverage, Anti-Illegal recruitment, minimum wage, and safe spaces are the six main components of
labor education. Employers have the right to choose how to manage the business and employees
have the right to be hired, disciplined, and to be let go. Philippine Insurance Corporation as well as
Social Security System, provides different benefits that can be used if there’s an emergency.
Furthermore, the Migrant Workers’ Act and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration
(POEA) have launched a campaign called Anti-Illegal Recruitment.

As a graduating student and a future employee, this Labor Education Session is very timely
and relevant that has given me a realistic preview of what lies ahead. I have now a better
understanding of the rights and benefits that I’d be given once I started working. This is a significant
discussion for me as this is a great help to be better prepared to enter the world of workplace with the
necessary knowledge and skills.
