Diabetic Retinopathy
Management and Treatment
Prompt referal to an ophthalmologist
knowledgeable and experienced in the management
of diabetic retinopathy in patients with:

Any level of macular edema


Moderate or worse nonproliferative
diabetic retinopathy
Any proliferative diabetic retinopathy

Treatment Modalities

Panretinal laser photocoagulation therapy


OR intravenous injections of anti-vascular

growth factor (in some)

Macular focal/grid photocoagulation and


intravenous injections of corticosteroids
(persistent macular edema or those not candidates
for first line therapy)
Retinopathy is not a contraindication
to aspirin therapy
