Laboratory Exercise no. 6 : Fourier Transform

Objectives:

1. Perform basic operations on Fourier and Inverse Fourier transform on MATLAB or other
software programs.
2. Convert an Inverse Fourier transform back to Fourier transform.

1. Find the Fourier Transform of the following given

a. 1

b. ( )

c. Sgn(t)

d. Cos(at)
e. Cos(2bt)

2. Find the Inverse Fourier Transform to the following given

a. 2

b. ( )

c.
d.

e.
Discussion:

1. What are the applications of Fourier Transform in Engineering?

- As Fourier Transform known to be one of the oldest and well-known techniques in the
field of mathematics and engineering mathematical work, it is a huge help in the analysis
of signal processing and digital image processing of a single image 2D waveform and
others like, Quantum mechanics, signal processing, and image processing. It aids for the
easier solution for complex problems and numbers.

Conclusion:

This laboratory activity involving Fourier Transform is an introductory to be more familiar of

the topic. I therefore conclude that the objectives are met. We are able to perform basic operations
on Fourier and Inverse Fourier transform on MATLAB or other software programs and convert an
Inverse Fourier transform back to Fourier transform with the help of both MATLAB and Octave
Online applications. The guide/ video tutorial also helped in terms of serving as an example in
performing the activity.
