Tax cut not likely soon
ANY future cut to the corporation tax rate in Northern Ireland will have to wait for at least four years, Stormonts finance minister has indicated. Sammy Wilson told MLAs he did not believe a reduction in the business levy, if it was made, would be implemented in the lifetime of the current assembly. The power-sharing administration is currently awaiting a treasury decision on whether the power to set the rate will be devolved to Stormont. Turn to page 12

Police come under attack

POLICE came under attack following a hoax bomb scare which the PSNI has said was designed to lure its officers into an area of Lurgan. A spokesman said that officers came under a sustained attack with petrol bombs, missiles and two other hoax devices while investigating in the North Street area. However, he said no one was injured in the incident. See page 9

SINN Fein has been accused of rank hypocrisy for demanding answers about the past while Martin McGuinness provides limited information on his own IRA history. The partys candidate for

the Irish presidency provoked scepticism in security circles about his claim to have left the terror group by 1990. Yet Sinn Fein was yesterday calling for police ombudsman Al Hutchinson to quit, while at the same time fending off attacks on Mr McGuinness by telling people to move on from the past.

Last night North Down DUP MLA Peter Weir said Sinn Feins call for the resignation of Mr Hutchinson on the day the deputy first minister declined to be transparent about his past highlights double standards. Whilst they dont want any questions asked about Martin McGuinness past, they are

calling for the resignation of Al Hutchinson because they want more questions asked about the events of 30 years ago involving the RUC, he said. Mr McGuinness officially stood down as deputy first minister at midnight but remains as MLA and MP for Mid Ulster. See pages 4, 5 & 12
