ATTORNEY General John Larkin last night delivered a robust response to his political critics, telling them that he is not peering anxiously to see if he has pleased them.

In an interview with the News Letter just hours after appearing in court and agreeing to stop proceedings against former Secretary of State Peter Hain, Mr Larkin said that he is not bound by the views of ministers. The Attorney Generals contempt of court case against Mr Hain over his personal attack

on a Belfast judge in his memoir was shelved after Mr Hain wrote to clarify that he had not intended to question Lord Justice Girvans motivation...or his wider capabilities as a judge. In a compromise, Mr Hain and his publisher agreed to include a footnote in future editions of the book.

Last night, Mr Larkin said that he is not in the least concerned about his future after a torrent of political criticism from across the spectrum and including Prime Minister David Cameron and senior DUP figures of his decision to prosecute Mr Hain. Turn to page 4 Ist Communion Special Carvery
