PCA-Structural Frame Worksheet


Worksheet Objectives:

2. Apply the structural frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

I am a Project Manager with K2 Consluting and we work with large, medium and small
airports around the country and world with the installation and management of airline
passenger security. The company I have chosen is called Leidos and the are the leader
when it comes to aviation security manufacturing, R & D and, risk management. We
work in conjunction with Leidos to secure the airports/airlines the general public utilizes.

2) Describe how the structure of the organization influenced the situation.

K2 has been in collaboration and doing business with Leidos for the last 29 years. We
have a strong partnership with real time communications with the operations dept. When
we have a need to fill or vice versa Leidos is the first call K2 will make as the same goes
for Leidos. The CEO of K2 has deveopled and cultivated a strong partnership with
Leidos, that has afforaded the PM groupd with AVSEC(division of K2) the ease of
securing assistance from Leidos. It has made the process a whole lot easier when we need
to fill a request.

Leidos and their mentality of client expectations first has been a proven success for K2
when we are called to action. At a moments notice we understand that Leidos will have
our back as we will have thiers as well. It makes the execution of project happene with
ease knowing we have a partner as large as Leidos on out side. Clients and local
governents constantly give high marks to the K2/Leidos teams for bringing things to
together at a moments notice.

3) Recommend how you would use structure for an alternative course of action
regarding your case.

I believe I would use a better structure on how are activities are coordinated. It seems at
times that when something does come up from clients it at times can be a fire drill

between up management of K2 and Liedos. Then it is filtered down to the PMO and the
PM where it is then cleaned up and made sense of. These decisions are made by the
Business development Director, the VP of AVSEC , the Director of Capablity and the
Director of Engineering, along with the Leadership team of Leidos. It can get very
convoluted between bith organizations leadership and information doesn’t always make it
down the correct channels. When a problem does arise it is because it was realized in the
field.
I believe as an organization we can clean that communication up. We have the necessary
tools , it just seems that we have one too many “cooks in the kitchen” and things can get
messy. We utilize an SME for every project but I believe that leadership foirgoes the
information from the SME upfront and relies on the the PM,PMO and SME to
communicate. Which is accurate but this after decisions are already made with the SME
input on the front in so therefor we have to go back to the beginning at times.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

Things I would like to is push back more when I realize that just because you have a
stake in the company, doesn’t always mean you are right. I would like for our leadership
to use the tools in the toolbox that they have. One thing I am not a fan of is cleaning up a
mess when we didn’t need to have one from the beginning. I leaderhisp has good
intentions in mind, but a lot of the individuals making the decisions haven’t necessarily
been in the field when there are so many variables that can determine really how a project
turns out to be.
