Worksheet Objectives:

2. Apply the political frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

The organization that I am chose is called Leidos. It is considered a Science and

Technology Company that deal in critical solutions within Civil, Defense, Health,
Intelligence and Dynetics. This organization was found back in 1969 and has gone
through extensive transformations over the years. Today Leidos is $4 Billion company
that spans the globe with its many arms and capabilities.

2) Describe how the politics of the organization influenced the situation.

Leidos is dependent on the political game not just in the US but around the world. On
their website they have a direct link for lobbying activities. On the same page they have
their own Leidos Political Action Committee. The United States Congress offers billions
of dollars a year to companies like Leidos for involvement in innovation, R&D of new
technology, defense capabilities and communications. They want their part of that so
being able to stand in the political arena is a huge part of what they do.

Even my employer, who works hand in hand with Leidos, has a small group of leaders
that works closely with local and federal officials. Most of our leadership are past
government officials or employees who have established relationships with current
government officials and lobbyist. There is a lot of money thrown around and everyone
wants their piece of the pie.

3) Recommend how you would use organizational politics for an alternative course of
action regarding your case.

I believe currently they(Leidos and K2 ) are doing everything needed to continue the
course of action. I am not sure what could be done alternatively because these companies
are so entrenched in ways that the US Government does its business. Congressional
Leadership hasn’t changed the ways lobbyist work for almost 30 years. And in this

 current climate there is entirely way too much money being thrown around for anyone to
want anything to change.

It literally would take an act of congress to change how businesses and lobbyist work
together. And again I do not see that changing anytime soon. It is unfortunate because I
do believe there are some companies that have good intentions but the way the system
works is either you’re onboard or your not.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

I think this question kind of falls in line with question 3. With some of these systems so
entrenched in the way of doing business there is nothing that you could really change. It
would be like pushing a rock up a muddy hill.
