Aim
The objective of this phase was to:

Understand the concept of force and loads, weight and loads on static applications. From these
concepts, it was then required to calculate reactions from the girders and determine reactions from
other members (columns) and the surroundings of the structure (ground). Different forces and loads
on the structure were analysed and the importance of the Australian standards was understood
during this phase.

the aim is done, leo :)

Theory & Modelling

REACTION, according to Newton’s third law is that every force has an equal and opposite reaction

i.e the force experienced by the object as a consequence of third law is the reaction.

2.The load path is simply the direction in which each consecutive load will pass through connected
members

The sequence commences at the highest point of the structure working all the way down to the
footing system, ultimately transferring the total load of the structure to the foundation

3.TORQUE is the measurement of the turning force of a body, while the MOMENT is the
measurement of the perpendicular distance from the point of rotation to the force's line of action

TORQUE is denoted by τ

4.For and object that is static/ fixed

5. In order to determine the reactions at the supports (columns)
The sum of moments about a reaction point equals to zero - ΣM = 0 (i.e. the force x distance from a
point)

Supposing there are A and B vertical reactions in the beam and considering that the sum of
moments at point b is zero and then find the reaction at point A easily using formula

Force(distance)-A(distance)

For reaction at B

We can use the formula considering that the sum of vertical forces equal to 0 (ΣFy = 0)

Fy=0 = A+B-force and as we know the values of A and force we can find B

6.

For finding reactions from the ground

Formula used is

R column+ W column

Reactions from girder Length = 13.39 m

Weight = 81.50 N
Distance from left girder to building G = 1440 mm 1.44
Distance from right girder to building E = 1300 mm 1.3 m

Conclusion
So using different formulas it can be said that total load on the single beam is 81.50kN and the udl as
4.2 kN/m

Provided length of the bridge as 13.39 m
