北風と太陽
ほう つよ ほう つよ きたかぜ たいよう こえ き
「おれの 方 が 強 い。」「いいや、ぼくの 方 が 強 い。」 北 風 と 太 陽 の 声 が聞こえます。
ふたり ちから つよ たいよう まいにちげん き
二人はどちらの 力 が 強 いかでケンカをしているようです。「 太 陽 が 毎 日 元 気だから、

暑 くてみんな 困 っているよ。おれが 涼 しい 風 を吹くと、みんな 嬉 しそうだ。おれの 方 が

みんなの 役 に立っているよ。」「でも、ぼくがいないと、木や野 菜 は 育 たないよ。 冬 は

北 風 の吹く 風 が 冷 たくて、とても 寒 かった。みんな 外 に出られなかったよね？ 最 近 は

暖 かいから、みんな 喜 んでいるよ。」「いいや、あそこを見て。 太 陽 が 強 く照らすか

ら、 川 の 水 がもうすぐ無くなりそうだ。 水 がないと、みんな 生 活 できないよ。」。

二人とも自 分 の 話 ばかりして、 人 の 話 を聞きません。二人は 毎 日 ケンカをしていまし

ど、 僕 の 方 が 強 いと 思 うよ。」その日もケンカは終わりそうにありません。そのとき、

北 風 はマントを着た 若 い 男 が 歩 いているのを見つけました。 北 風 は言いました。「あ

の 人 のマントをどちらが 早 く脱がせることができると 思 う？これでどちらが 強 いかを決

めよう。 強 ければ 簡 単 にマントを脱がせることができるはずだ。」「それはいい。よし、

やってみよう。」 二人は 男 のマントを脱がせることにしました。

「 最 初 におれがやってみるよ」。 北 風 はそう言って、 強 い 風 を吹きました。 男 は 急

を飛ばすつもりです。「 寒 い！どうして 急 に 風 が 強 くなったんだ？」 男 はそう言うと、

は言いました。「だめだ。おれの 力 ではマントを脱がせることができない。」。

「じゃあ、 次 はぼくがやってみるよ。」 太 陽 はそう言うと、ゆっくりと 男 を照らしまし

「よし、 今 だ！」 太 陽 は 男 がマントを脱ぐのを見て、照らす 力 をもっと 強 くしました。

「 暑 い。 急 に 暑 くなってきた。」 男 はそう言って、もう 一 枚 のマントも脱ぎました。
たいよう よろこ たいよう ちから よわ おとこ
「やった！」 太 陽 は 喜 びました。それから、 太 陽 は 力 を 弱 くして、やさしく 男 を

照らし 続 けました。

きたかぜ たいよう かんたん ぬ かぜ ぬ

北 風 はおどろきました。 太 陽 がマントを 簡 単 に脱がせたからです。おれの 風 では脱がせ

ることが出来なかったのに、なぜ 太 陽 はマントを脱がせることができたんだ？ 太 陽 は言

いました。「 北 風 は 男 の気持ちを 考 えていなかったよね？ 力 を 使 うだけだと 人 は

動 かないよ。 人 の気持ちを 考 えないといけないんだ。」 北 風 はそれを聞いて、言いまし

た。「わかった。 君 はおれより 強 いよ。」とうとう二人の 長 かったケンカは終わりました。

 The North Wind and the Sun
“I’m stronger.” “No, I’m stronger.” The voice of the North Wind and the Sun were heard. It
seemed that they were arguing about which power was stronger. “Since you (the Sun) are
energetic every day, it’s hot and everyone is troubled. When I blow the cool wind, everyone
looks happy. I’m more helpful to them all.” “But, if I’m not here, trees and vegetables don’t
grow. In the winter, since the wind you (the North Wind) blew was cold, it was very cold.
Everyone was unable to go out, isn’t that right? These days, it’s warm and everyone is
glad.” “No, look at over there. Since you shine strongly, the water in the river is going to
disappear soon. Without the water, everyone cannot live.”

Both of them just spoke their own story and didn’t listen to the other person’s one. They
were arguing every day. One day, the North Wind said as usual, “Let’s finish the argument
because I’m stronger.” The Sun also said as usual, “Yeah, let’s finish the argument, but I
think I’m stronger.” On that day, it seemed that the argument wouldn’t finish as well. At
the time, the North Wind found a young man walking with a cloak. The North Wind said,
“What do you think, which of us can make the person take off his cloak earlier? By this,
let’s decide which is stronger. If you’re strong, you should be able to make him take off his
cloak easily.” “Sounds good. Well, let’s try.” They decided to make him take off his cloak.

“First, I will try,” the North Wind said and blew the strong wind. The man was surprised by
the wind blowing suddenly. The North Wind steadily blew the wind. He planned to make
it fly off by blowing the wind. “It’s cold! Why has the wind suddenly become so strong?”
the man said, and then took out another cloak, and wore it in a hurry. The North Wind blew
the wind more strongly to make him take off his two cloaks. The man tightly held the
cloaks to prevent them from flying away. Even if the North Wind strongly blew the wind,
the man was holding the cloaks very hard. The North Wind said, “I can’t. My power can’t
make him take off his cloaks.

“Well, next I will try,” the Sun said and then slowly shined on the man. “Ah, it has become
warm at last.” Since the Sun appeared, the man looked relieved a little. The man stopped
holding his cloaks. Next, the Sun strengthened the power to shine a little. “It’s getting a
little hot,” the man said and then took off his cloak. “Now or never!” the Sun looked at the
man taking off his cloak and then strengthened the power to shine more. “It’s hot. It’s
getting hot suddenly,” the man said, and then took off another cloak. “Yes!” the Sun was
glad. Then, the Sun weakened the power and continued to softly shine on the man.

The North Wind was surprised because the Sun easily made him take off his cloaks. [The
North Wind thought] “my wind was unable to make him take it off. Why was the Sun able
to make him take off his cloaks?” The Sun said, “You didn’t guess his feelings, did you? If
you just use your power, people don’t move. You have to guess people’s feelings.” The
North Wind listened to it and then said, “Okay. You are stronger than me.” The long
argument finally finished. When you make people do something or request for something,
just showing your power doesn’t work well like the North Wind. It’s important to guess
people’s feelings like the Sun.
