Re: Customer Traffic Analysis

Thank you for the opportunity to assess your customer traffic data in order to provide

recommendations for improving operations. The analysis and recommendations below

are based on the 10 years data you provided. The analysis below is based on this data

alone. Therefore, my recommendations should be tempered by your knowledge of

business realities and your market. Please let me know if I can answer any questions

concerning the analysis or the recommendations provided.

I used pivot tables and graphs to analyze the data since it allows one to represent

information in a more organized manner. It also provides clear data analysis, access to

quick data reports, and allows quick update. The pivot table and associated line chart

provide a lot of information. By clicking on the Week (cell B3), you can see how the

daily/hourly pattern changes by week. To see data for a particular branch (or for all

branches including main or just for the 3 branches combined), just select another variable

to average in the Values section. The days and hours have been sorted in the natural

order. This was done manually.

ANALYSIS 1: Hourly patterns by week analysis
Analysis

Friday and Saturday tend to be busy days for RGV Bank. The bank sees the greatest

number of customers on Friday. Even though the bank opens for less hours on Saturday, it

sees a large proportion of customers between 10:00 am and noon.

Recommendation

The bank should have more staff available on Friday and Saturday in order to provide speedy

service to its customers.

ANALYSIS 2: Hour of the day

Analysis

By looking at the average of each hour of the day, it can be easily read when it is most

busy in the establishment. The hours are arranged from opening time to closing time.

This is a wave pattern with the average people who visit the bank. For example, the

busiest time for the bank is around 11am to 1pm. And then it picks up around closing

time. When the bank opens there is a steady amount of people who visit the bank but

then there is a high amount during “rush hour/lunchtime” and then as the day goes on it

slows down a bit. But nearing the end of the day, it picks up again, just as much as when

it was 11am to 12pm. By the looks of it, the second rush can be people who are out of

work or parents who have picked up their kids from school etc.

2 to 3 36.74
3 to 4 26.78
4 to 5 74.4

Recommendation

The recommendation would be to schedule staff at the hours where it gets the busiest. So

the scheduled day should open with the manager and two other bankers. When it hits peak

hours, another employee should be brought in to help the line move. Then the extra hand

can be sent home after breaks have been executed. And other employees can come in later

in the day to help with the second rush and the closing procedures.

ANALYSIS 3: Daily and hourly patterns by all branches

Analysis

By clicking the image, it will take you to the excel sheet with all the branches. It shows

that it gets busier as the week goes on. The busiest days for them would be the start of the

weekend.

SELF ASSESSMENT
In completing the Excel project, I learned how to organize, analyze, interpret, conclude, and

determine a plan of action. Visualizing the RGV Bank customer traffic through pivot

charts and graphs, I was able to quickly identify highest and lowest peaks in service by

branch, week, day, and hour for 10 weeks.

In obtaining vital information from the data, I was able to give recommendations to the

company on what areas needed attention. As a result, this information will assist the

company to create a plan of action and confidently share the information with each

manager and employee so they can all be on the same path in reaching the business

strategic goals.

By presenting my findings through spreadsheets, charts and graphs it enabled me and the

company to make a data driven decision based on facts and not gut feelings or emotions.

While learning how to interpret the data, it helped me identify and understand variation.

In using statistical thinking for this assignment, I was able to be assertive in my

recommendation based off the evidence.

In conclusion, to be a successful business organization, it is important to always look at the

data first to be able to identify if the businesses and employee’s performance is in line with

the strategic plan. Furthermore, it’s a tool companies can use to enhance its sales and

enables the decision makers to make data driven decisions that can positively impact the

organization.
