How mining caused earthquake?

According to the report's data, mining is the most highest human-caused of earthquake compared to
fracking, nuclear activity and others.

Nowadays, mining companies are digging deeper in the Earth’s crust than ever before to extract raw
materials from earth such as gravel to construct road or building.

So, many rocks and other materials are being removed will cause instability and lead to sudden
collapse and trigger earthquake.

Thus, rock burst occurs when mining deeper into soil.

What is the correlation between rock burst with mining?

In high-stress mines, rock bursts are massive failures of the rock that can result in seismic rock
explosions due to internal mechanical forces caused by weight and pressure.

They can also trigger movement (tectonic plates movement) in nearby geological structures and are
caused by both natural earthquakes and mining activity.

Tragedy

In 2007, 6 miners were laboring 450 meters underground, excavating coal from the Crandall Canyon
Mine, US.

Suddenly, pillars supporting the mine roof ruptured, causing a major collapse and trapping the men
underground.

For three days, rescue teams drilled a narrow borehole at the miner’s location but failed to find
them.

Mining engineer concluded that the earthquake with a magnitude-3.9 event which triggered by mine
collapse.
