Recent Seismic Activity in Yemen

The seismic activity zones in southwestern part of Arabian plate (Yemen, southern part of Red
Sea and Gulf of Aden), illustrate the growing need to activity an gage seismic research efforts towards
seismic zonation in Yemen territory as well as along its shorelines where historical and recent seismic
activity clearly demonstrate that the western part of the Republic of Yemen most probable for future
earthquakes occurrence. Recent seismic activity during (1990-2000) outlined events records range (1
≤ M ≤ 6.5) reflected tectonic characteristics of Red Sea and Gulf of Aden spreading process as seismic
source areas along transition faults with shallow intrusive magmatic activity due to continental
category being the main generation elements for seismic swarms occurred in different Yemeni areas.
