1.0 SAFETY
1.1 General Safety

Safety precautions must be alerted at all time. This manual is to help operator understand safe
operating procedures and some problems which may be encountered by them. Try not to make
alterations to the equipment, which may produce dangerous situation, where serious injury or death
may occur.

All electrical wiring must be carried out by competent and qualified electrician. An adequate and
safe power supply to the Chain Feeder System cannot be compromised. All wiring installation
should refer to your Country Standard and Regulation.

1.2 Safety in handling the Chain Feeding System

The Chain Feeding System is designed and made solely for the purpose of conveying granular type
animal feed for poultry feeding. Use of the system in other way is a misuse of the system and may
endanger safety.

This system is only use in the poultry barn rearing environment. Any environments may have high
dusts concentration, gas vapors and fumes are not suitable for the system to be installed.

As Chain Feeding System contains many moving and electrical parts, which will cause serious
injury or a fatal accident if wrongly touched. Therefore, all safety guards available for the machine
should be properly covered or placed for the protection. During machine operating if safety guards
are incorrectly covered or placed is a serious misuse of the machine and endangers safety.

1.3 Safety in Maintenance

Maintenance should be carried out by competent personnel or under competent supervisor. Usually, the
Chain Feeder System may operate under automatic mode whereby the system starts without any
warning or signal. Therefore, before starting any maintenance or inspection works, power supply must
be cut off and “Under Maintenance” sign board should place on the power isolator to give safety alert to
prevent accidentally turn on the system by other personnel.

Before restarting the Chain Feeder System, ensure that all electrical enclosures are properly locked and
all safety guards are correctly placed.

3.0 ASSEMBLY
The assembly manual is one of the recommended ways of doing the installation of chain
feeding system. Failure of the following steps that provides in this system assembly may lead to
fatal accident.

3.1 Feeding Line

 The feed line required to be positioned according to the installation drawing.
 The feed line required to be designed that have enough distance around 1.5m between the
outer feed lines and the house walls.
 Ensure that the components are easily accessible for maintenance purposes.
 As for existing poultry house, the location started by determined the exact positioned of the
feeder in the poultry house where the current location of fill system and feed tanks. In
addition, it is efficient to adjust the fill system to match with the feeder location.
 Set the feeder hopper in proper position. Ensure the allowance distance between the first
90-degree corners from hopper at least 40cm away to prevent slack in the chain not
straighten out and causes chain from binding in the corner.
 If required, raise the feed hopper up to necessary height of the feeding line.
 For a standing feeding line, insert stand legs for all corners 90-degree and ensure that all in
the same height.
 For a standing feeding line, insert stand legs for all trough couplers and ensure it all in the
same height as well.
 Place the end of regular feed trough at the opening of the feed hopper and into the first 90-
degree corner.
 To assemble the drive in the operating direction of the chain, cut the trough and connect it to
the drive.
 Once the main assembly is done, insert the end of the trough into a trough coupler with
support.
 Proceed with the assembly of the complete circuit until it reaches the other side of the
hopper.
 Double check if all assembled components is in straight line, horizontal and at a right angle.
This is to make sure that less wear and a better operation of the feed chain.

3.2 Chain Installation

 Ensure that all trough ends are assembled properly into the corners, couplers and hopper to
avoid any problem during chain installation.
 In order to avoid damage at feeding system, get rid of any loose incidental such as bolts,
nuts, wire brackets and others from the feed trough and the feed hoppers.
 DO NOT uses a hammer to bend or close the hook of the feed chain. Use a suitable tool for
the work.
 Unroll the feed chain on the poultry house floor. Consider the travel (Figure 3.2.1) (direction
of the feed chain as below.
 Prepare the chain around the feeding circuits.
 Work the foremost end out of one length of chain into the first 90-degree corner and put one
section length of feed chain into the feed trough.

2
 By using a short pipe, place it between the inner rim of
the feed trough and chain and work it along the system.
 At the end of the assembly, work the chain through the
90-degree corner and the feed hopper.
 Get the chain through the hopper and out into the trough
at the outgoing side.
 Once it is through the hopper, pull the feed chain until it Figure 3.2.1 Feed Chain
reaches the drive.
 Unroll another length at the tail-end of the first one.
 Put the chain in the trough and join the two pieces using
a chain breaker (can be used to disconnect chain as
well). Lay the chain in the trough and thread around the
corners as you go.
 Tighten the chain as tight as possible by using a ratchet
cable puller (Figure 3.2.2) or equivalent tensioner tools Figure 3.2.2 Ratchet Cable
such as chain tensioner. Puller

3.3 Chain Tension

The single drive unit here below is 1 x motor/drive per circuit. The double drive is 1 x drive each side
of the circuit and it will drive/push the chain simultaneously. Two drives are usually used for longer
circuits.

For example, 90 meter start to (tension/overlap) to remove 4 or 5 links if you have a single drive unit.
For example, if the house is 90 meter maybe the complete circuit is 90 x 2 = 180 meters plus
together with the width. Use the graph below to calculate:

4.0 OPERATION
Operation is a recommended way to manage the system and the functionality of the chain feeding
system. Failure of the following steps that provides in this system may lead to severe injuries.

rationed
1.7 - 2.5 kg

The above values are average values depending on climate and strain.

4.2 Length of Feed Chain

 Reduced 30% of the maximum length of feed chain IF the chain feeding system located in the
litter area.
 Reduced 30% of maximum length of feed chain IF using single-phase motors.
 For rationed feeding, select the feed chain speed and the circuit length that takes maximum of
5 minutes for one circuit.

4.3 Feeding System

 The carriers are tightly connected with the motor shafts to make the feed chain drive wheel into
operation which means the shear pin make reversible drive gear.
 The feed chain can be jammed and damage of installation can be avoided when the shear pin
is break and the feed chains are stops.
 Switch off the main switch before replace the shear pin. Severe injuries may cause if
accidentally start the drive.
 Check the pre-tension of the feed chain before putting the feed chain into operation.

5
 Ensure the tension of feed chain is correct by slightly push the chain links of the feed chain
and cannot be lifted more than 10mm at the exit of the drive while system running.
 Ensure enough feed are available to provide a full circuit of the feed chain
 In case of emergency, ensure the installation can be immediately switched off.
 A chain clearance can be determined at the outlet of the drive unit when the feed trough is not
filled with the feed.
 The depth of the feed in the trough are controlled by the level slide of adjustable feed
 The slide is located on the side of the hopper next to the power sprocket.
 Loosen the wing nut to adjust the position of the slide either up or down to get the desired
amount of feed in the trough.
 In order to clear the surface of the wheel, adjust the slide above the feed return wheel. This will
make the feed return wheel revolves.
 Start the feed chain drive and watch the feed chain running. The feed chain runs smooth and
slow when the entire feeding circles are filled with the feed. Stop the test running.
 Install the grill sections by squeezing and inserting under the inner lip of the trough.
 The bottom-line wire of each grill section goes under the trough lip with the upper line wire just
above the lip.

4.4 Feed Metering

 The time switch controls the feeding times and the operating times of the feed chain.
 Ensure a uniform supply of feed to the entire feeding line and the feed does not spill over when
returning to the feed hopper.
 In the morning, before switch on the light, distribute the first feed.
 The number of daily feed distributions depends on the feed level in the trough.
 The actual feed requirements of the birds depend on weight, age, strain, house climate and the
number of birds per meter of feeding trough.
 Fill up the feed trough up to maximum feed level before moving the birds in so that the birds
can easily feed from them. Approximately 2 weeks onwards, the minimum feed level is used to
prevent feed losses.
 All feed lines are run with the same feed level.

4.5 Chain Feeder Hopper

 For each filling of the feeder hopper, close the lid and open it again before the next feed
distribution.
 Adjust the feed level in the feed trough and evaluate the tests of the feed level slide at the feed
hopper.
 Adjust the daily feed ration at the Auto-Limit scale. Close the feed hopper slide by hand.
 Switch on filling of the feeder hopper manually. When the daily feed ration is reached, it
automatically stops.
 Open the feeder hopper slide manually
 Switch on the feeding system and switch it off after one feed chain circuit or when it is
completely empty.

6
5.0 Maintenance
5.1 Preventive Maintenance
Preventive is better than corrective actions. Our maintenance procedure is based on preventive
maintenance to ensure your system is up to optimum level for running operations.

 Ensure the responsible switch for the machine has been switched off before start any
maintenance. The assembly may only be carried out by person who are competent and
can guarantee a proper repair from their special training, knowledge or practical
experiences with the unit.
 Repair, maintenance and cleaning operation as the removal of functional disorder may
be generally only be carried out when the drive is turned off an the motor is in a
standstill.
 Work with appropriate tools such as use protective gloves if occur any possible danger
to hands.
 Checked the proper functioning of the machine after repair works.

5.2 Unit Drive

 Always clean the device and protect from dust.
 Prevent the penetration of condensation water into the device.
 Protect the unit drive from dropping and splash water.
 The device does not need lubricants.

5.3 Feeding System

 Check the feeding system at least twice a day
 Check if all the feed chains are running and if the 90-degree corner rotates in the feed chain
corner.
 Switch off the drive if there are folds in the feed channel.
 Remove any possible jams in the feed channel at the chain.
 For a new feed chain, test the tension weekly as is must undergoes a running-in procedure
first to remove remains of paint and grease on its links.
 Run the empty feeder for 20 to 25 minutes and giving the feeding circuit a final check
 Fill the hopper about one quarter full of feed
 Watch for slack in the chain as it takes up the additional load. If necessary, shorten the chain
for proper tension.

5.4 Feed Level Adjuster

 Daily check the feed level at the feed level adjusters.
 Remove the feathers, flour, clumps or other foreign matter.
 Adjust the feed level to correct height.

7
