LIKES AND DISLIKES

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you should be able to:


 Ask about somebody’s likes and dislikes;
 Express his or other people’s likes and dislikes;
 Use various degrees of likes and dislikes;
 Express preferences.

Dialogue 1
Robert : “What do you do during your spare time, Tim?”
Tim : “I watch TV.”
Robert : “What TV programs do you like?”
Tim : “I like quiz, musical programs and some serial.”
Robert : “Do you like to watch sport programs?”
Tim : “Yes, I do. I especially like to watch football and boxing game.”
Robert : “What do you like to do besides watching TV?”
Tim : “I like to listen to music. Oh, I can do it anytime I want to. I can listen
to music while working, while eating or while chatting with friends”
Robert : “Really? Why don’t turn on the stereo then?
Here I’ve brought a new cassette of John Denver.”
Tim : “Okay.”

Dialogue 2
John : “Do you go to the movies often?”
Harry : “Yes I do. I like it very much.”
John : “what sort of movies do like?”
Harry : “I like action movies. I am especially crazy about James Bond movies.”
John : “Are you? How’s about western movies?”
Harry : “I hate them. I don’t like them at all.”
John : “But western movies are full of action, too.”
Harry : “Yes, but they are too childish for me.”
John : “I see. And who is your favorite film star?”
Harry : “Sean Connery, of course.”

I just like them a little.  I hate them.

or you can also say:


 I am crazy about it.
 It’s alright
 I hate it
To ask about somebody’s preferences, you say:
 Which do you like better?
prefer?

To answer those questions, you say:


 I prefer camping to staying at home.
walking to riding a bike.
tea to coffee.
Sean Connery to Roger Moore.

 I like camping better than staying at home.


listening to music better than staying at home.
tea better than coffee.
Sean Connery better than Roger Moore.
