This assignment is to be done in a group of maximum 5 students, or lesser. This


assignment is to achieve Course Learning Outcome no 2, where at the end of this
assignment, students should be able to EXPLAIN the provisions in the current
Malaysian standard form of contract as mechanism for precontract administration, in
construction industry ambience.

All work must be done in English, typewritten in Arial (11 font), 1.5 spacing and must
be in numbering system. The use of diagrams and example photos, graphics or
infographics to explain the contents or process are highly recommended.

CASE STUDY

You are required to find your own case study regarding Traditional Procurement (for
Building Work only).Your case study can be either of public sector projects, or private
sector projects, donein Malaysia after the year 2000.

Based on your case study, you have to analyse and explain in your report the differences
between the Traditional Procurement and Design and Build (D&B) Procurement
practiced in Malaysia after the year 2000. Your report must contain the following
matters:

1. Introduction of the report.

2. Background of case studies.

3. Different characteristics between Traditional Procurement and D&B .

4. The teams involved in Traditional Procurement and D&B.

5. Structural differences between Traditional Procurement and D&B (contractual


and responsibilities link).
6. The different under scope of services provided by quantity surveyors in Traditional
Procurement and D&B.
7. Provide the differences on scale of fees charged by the QS consultant rendered
in Traditional Procurement and D&B.
8. List down the scale of fees for consulting quantity surveyor established by the
statutory body agencies that governing the quantity surveying profession.
9. Explain the process in selection and appointment of the contractor between
Traditional Procurement and D&B.
10. Advantages and disadvantages comparison between Traditional Procurement
and D&B.

a. Exemplary – 5 : Insightful introduced and overview the topic, related to case
studies
b. Excellent – 4 : Insightful introduced and overview the topic
c. Good – 3 : Clear introduced and overview the topic
d. Average – 2 : Introduction is introduced and somewhat discussed.
e. Poor –1 : Introduction is introduced and somewhat is irrelevant.
f. Very poor – 0 : No introduction.

2) Observation results = 75 marks


a. Excellent : 60 – 75 : Work is clearly analyzed and reflected, related to case
studies
b. Good : 40 – 59 : Work is clearly analyzed and reflected.
c. Average : 20 – 39 : Work is introduced, analyzed but not clearly reflected.
d. Satisfy : 10 – 19 : Work is introduced and somewhat discussed.
e. Poor : 1 – 9 : Work is not clearly discussed and irrelevant.
f. Non-compliance : 0 : No work is done.

3) Conclusion = 5 marks
a. Exemplary – 5 : Conclusion is presented outstandingly clear, related to case
studies, and demonstrated the ability to related to the whole work to course
outcome
b. Excellent – 4: Conclusion is presented clearly, and demonstrated the ability
to relate to the introduction part of the work
c. Good – 3 : Conclusion is presented clearly
d. Average – 2: Conclusion is moderately presented.
e. Poor – 1: Conclusion is irrelevant.
f. Very poor – 0: No conclusion is presented

a. Exemplary – 5: Observation results are presented outstandingly clear,
effective and logically. Very smooth flow of ideas and expression.
b. Excellent – 4 : Observation results are presented clearly and logically.
c. Good – 3 : Observation results presented clearly
d. Average – 2: Average organization. There is moderate attempt to present
the observation results clearly, effectively and logically.
e. Poor – 1: Poor organization on observation results.
f. Very poor – 0: No appropriate organisation were made

a. Exemplary – 5 : more than 10 references from various sources and
references is presented with APA citation format, and cross referred to the
whole Work.
