Apple Watch Series 8

Evaluate the item

The Apple Watch 8 is the extended version of the previous series, which means it’s not different
from the Apple Watch of last year. The major changes in Apple Watch Series 8 are the new
sensors, such as the sensor to check the body temperature and particular motion sensors to detect
car crashes (Price, 2022). Furthermore, it has a bright Always-On Retina display with an edge-
to-edge design, a temperature sensor to offer an idea of retrospective ovulation and enhanced
cycle tracking features, and improved safety elements such as crash detection, fall detection, and
Emergency SOS5. And, it also allows the user to experience innovative methods of training with
an improved workout app. Among other features, this watch ensures the overnight sensing of
temperature and more exact period predictions, but it has the same design as the previous
watches (Price, 2022).

The Apple Watch Series 8's appearance and design look exactly like the previous versions, but
what is different from the previous watch models are its notable health and safety sensors. The
body temperature sensor can check and track changes in the body temperature even when the
person is sleeping. It also has a dual-sensor design to enable reading more accurately. Even the
Apple watch series 8 uses body temperature data during the menstrual cycle of a female to guess
the date of the last ovulation. To further ensure upgraded safety measures, this watch can detect
if a user has been in a car crash and then make an automatic call for help to the emergency
contacts. The Apple Watch Series 8 focuses on recognizing the sounds and changes in the
rushing abilities of a car crash rather than monitoring the movements. The feature is supported
by advanced sensors including the microphone, barometer, GPD, and an advanced
accelerometer. The sensors show the pop-up on a screen asking if the user is okay and then dial
the emergency contacts if the user doesn’t answer in ten seconds. Not only that, but this watch
also sends the users’ location to the responders and emergency contacts (Price, 2022).

Moreover, similar to Series 7, Series 8 has an IP6X certification, which means it is completely
dustproof and has a WR50 rating, meaning it’s water resistant to 164 feet and secure for
underwater activities such as swimming in a pool. A user can wear it in the shower and water
sports activities without any tension. Even though its battery life is not long-lasting and is similar
to the previous versions, it has fast charging capability (Price, 2022).

Give suggestions for improvement

Apple watch series 8 should have a new design that attracts users to buy it and not consider it
similar to the previous versions. And, there is still a need to charge it daily, which is similar to
the battery timings of series 6 and 7; therefore, long-lasting battery timing should be introduced
(Buondonno, 2022). Wrist temperature readings can be taken only when Sleep Focus is turned on
and sleep tracking is enabled. It takes five nights to build a baseline, but after the baseline is
established, the user is only going to see deviations from that baseline (Song, 2022). Therefore,
they have introduced a sensor to the extent that a user gets an idea by looking at his wrist that
he’s having a fever because his temperature is at a certain degree of Fahrenheit.
