UNESCO's mission ORGANISATION
is to contribute to the building of a culture of peace,
the eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural
dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, communication and
information.
The Organization has 193 Members and 11 Associate Members.
Membership of UNESCO is governed by Articles II and XV of the
Constitution and by rules 98 to 101 of the Rules of Procedure of the
General Conference. Membership of the United Nations carries with it the
right to membership of UNESCO.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
(UNESCO) seeks to encourage the identification, protection and
preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered
to be of outstanding value to humanity.
Today, UNESCO has five major themes to its
programs which include
 1) education,
2) natural sciences,
3) social and human sciences,
4) culture, and
5) communication and information.
