Objective of the study

The general objective of the study is to analyze the nature of high value crop marketing in
Tigrai ,and to improve market access for small holder farmers .

Specific Objectives

1. To analyze market chain in the region including factors affecting outlet choice decision
of small scale farmers.
2. Identify opportunities and challenges of high value crop marketing
3. To identify the main actors and their functions in the market chain
4. Identify the need for market infrastructure and its constraints
5. To assess the marketing channel, organization/institutions, linkage and lines of
movements of value crops(leverage points)
6. Identify the percentage end price at various nodes of market chain
7. To assess the potential difficulty at all nodes in overcoming each competitive constraint
in a sustainable manner;
8. To map the market chains(existing and potential markets) and major actors
(intermediaries, buyers, suppliers) for the selected commodity at local/sub
woreda/woreda/zonal level)
9. Formulate/develop market linkage and support services connection strategy/guideline
that help to establish viable, irrigation based, efficient, effective and long lasting
connections of the selected vegetables with the market and pertinent support service
providers.

The consultant team is required to have the following minimum requirements below to conduct
the market opportunity study.

1. Legal status , recognized by the government , enabling the organization to perform the
above mentioned tasks and operate in accordance with the laws and regulations of the
state.
2. Previous experience working on review, study and design activity is essential. the
evidence such as copies of contract, reference letter should be provided.
3. Excellent knowledge of English , both spoken and written, and be able to hire local data
enumerators with local languages/dialects.
