TIPS FOR SPEAKING EXAM

 REMEMBER to use present tenses (Simple Present & Present

Continuous)

SIMPLE PRESENT for people, place(s), time of the day and

weather
PRESENT CONTINUOUS for actions, clothes, people’s
feelings

Also, there is a certain “order” you can follow to avoid mixing

up ideas. (This is a suggestion, if you have a different opinion,
it’s okay but remember to follow an “order”)

1. People
2. Place
3. Weather / time of the day
4. Clothes
5. Actions
6. People’s feelings

EXAMPLE:
The photo shows two teenagers. The girl is on the left, and the
boy is on the right, next to her. I can see some water behind
them, so I think they’re near a lake. I think it’s summer but it
isn’t very hot. Both are wearing trainers; the girl is wearing a
blue cap and a long-sleeved t-shirt. The boy is wearing a purple
jacket and blue joggers. They are cooking some food over a fire.
They both look happy and are smiling a little.
 REMEMBER to use prepositions of place

For example:

The dad is on the right, next to his son

The boy is between his parents
The microwave is behind the family
The girl is on the left, next to her mum
This photo shows a family of four. There are two children at the
front, a girl and a boy, and behind them at the back, are their
parents. I can see some trees behind them and they’re on a
grass road so I think they’re in the countryside. It may be fall or
winter because of how they are dressed. The boy and his dad
are wearing the same clothes, long sleeved black t-shirts and
orange trousers. The girl is wearing a stripped white and blue
sweatshirt. They are running and smiling, so they are happy and
enjoying their day.
ACTIVITY: Record yourself speaking for no more than 30
seconds (if you can reach 1 minute, even better) using the tips
and writing down your ideas to help you. We’ll practice this
next class with new pictures, at the end of the class.
