I. INTRODUCTION

The Omani Examination for General Practitioners (OEGP) is focused on assessing graduates’
critical thinking and decision making to accurately diagnose and manage medical conditions with
proper utilization of diagnostic procedures, medications, prevention strategies, and referrals. This
examination is conducted for general practitioners who are applying for a job in the local healthcare
institutions.

II. PURPOSES

1. To ensure that general practitioners (GP) have the competencies to practice safely.
2. To be used as eligibility criteria for employment in Oman for general practitioners.

III. ELIGIBILITY

1. BSc in Medicine from recognized local or international medical colleges


2. Completed approved/accredited internship program

IV. REGISTRATION

1. Go to OMSB website: www.omsb.gov.om


2. Click on “Professional Competence Affairs”
3. Select Occupational Classification Testing Section
4. Click on “Online Services”
5. For GP, visit Pearson VUE website to schedule, reschedule and cancel your exam
(https://home.pearsonvue.com/omsb)
6. Payment of examination fee: 220 USD

V. EXAMINATION FORMAT

1. The examination consists of 150 single best answer multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

2. The examination covers six (6) domains designed to measure the competencies of a general
practitioner: women’s health, child health, medicine, public/community health, surgery, and
emergency.

3. The duration of examination is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

• Method or ways conceded in order to identify where the defect is and what
causes the illness.

3 Pharmacological Management • Management of condition through the use of medication.

4 Non-Pharmacological Management • Interventions used to manage disease without the use of medications.

• Measures aiming at eradicating, eliminating or minimizing the impact or


burden of disease and disability.
5 • It is characterized into three types:
Prevention
o Primary Prevention - intervening before health effects occur.
o Secondary Prevention - screening to identify diseases in the earliest.
o Tertiary Prevention - preventing further disease impact post diagnosis.

IX. VENUE OF EXAMINATION

a) For those residing in Oman, the venue will be at Oman Medical Specialty Board.
b) For those residing outside Oman, the examination will be conducted in Pearson VUE
centers worldwide.

X. RELEASE OF RESULTS

The results of the examination will be emailed to the candidates via their registered email
within 24 hours after completion of the examination.
