Rev 10:1 And I saw another mighty angel
come down from heaven, clothed with a
cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head,
and his face was as it were the sun, and
his feet as pillars of fire:
10:2 And he had in his hand a little
book open: and he set his right foot upon
the sea, and his left foot on the earth
2
3
You know that man naturally starts out with his right
foot. Now, since the angel's right foot was upon the
sea and his left foot upon the land, the symbolism
shows that he starts out on the sea, the province of
Daniel's beasts (Dan. 7), then on earth, the province
of the two-horned beast (Rev. 13:10-18). His work,
therefore, starts in the Old Country, and should
include the very first truth that was disclosed from
the book of Daniel. All in all his message and power
prove to be world-wide -- land and sea.

Rev. 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming
up out of the earth; and he had two horns like
a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
5
When I came to the United States some years
ago, I saw all manner of machinery, machinery
that did a great amount of work in a short time.
But along with these conveniences, what else
did I see? -- I saw thistles and thorns multiplied a
thousand fold, and pestilence of all kinds
devouring the crops.
In the Old Country we did not have machinery,
but we never had to spray any vegetation.

7
Rev. 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming
up out of the earth; and he had two horns like
a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
8
As the birthplace of the nations is
symbolized by the sea, then the "earth,"
the opposite of the "sea," locates the
domain of the two-horn beast away from
the Old Country. But to find exactly which
one of the New Country's governments it
stands for, we must consider the
characteristics of the beast itself.
Tract 12 39-40 9
THE USA

10
The "earth," then, points to a place away from the "sea" and the
opposite of what sea stands for, -- a country made up of
inhabitants who have emigrated from elsewhere. The only such
country or nation away from the Old Country and as influential as
portrayed in this two-horned beast that arises after the
formation of the leopard-like beast, in the Protestant period, is
the United States. Moreover, the United States is already a world
power, and so we need not be guessing any more. The beast's
two horns point to its two political ruling powers -- Democrats
and Republicans. Their lamb-like character gives the appearance
of innocence, harmlessness, and charitability. The beast's
speaking like a dragon nevertheless repudiates the lamb-like
appearance of the horns.

Seeing that the Lord is about to humiliate
"Assyria" for her own good, but that He
would forbear doing so if only she would
repent as did Nineveh of old at Jonah's
warning, obviously this Forecast is
published to benefit not the church alone
but "Assyria" and her allies also, and even
their enemy.

Inspiration makes a type of that church
and state confederacy, and by it
definitely points out the trend which the
nominal churches and the sovereign
powers of the world are to take now in
the antitype. It makes known,
moreover, that they will not prosper in
it.

Plainly, the four metals of the great image
symbolize, as do the four beasts, a succession of
four kings in their respective periods. The feet
(right and left) of iron and clay obviously
represent two divisions of kings (rightists and
leftists) in a fifth period -- the time in which the
God of Heaven shall "set up a kingdom, which
shall never be destroyed." The toes of the feet,
indicate, of course, a multiplicity of kings in
both parties, the rightists and the leftists. 18

ISAIAH 8
22
Isa 8:1 Moreover the LORD said unto me, take thee a
great roll, and write in it with a man's pen concerning
Mahershalalhashbaz.
8:2 And I took unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah
the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.
8:3 And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived,
and bare a son. Then said the LORD to me, call his name
Mahershalalhashbaz.
8:4 For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My
father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the
spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of
Assyria. 23
Having been pre-existent with His Father (Heb. 1:1, 2;
John 1:1, 2), and then having been re-born in
Bethlehem, Immanuel manifestly represents the "born
again" Christians (John 3 :3); whereas never having been
pre-existent, Maher-shalal-hash-baz can only
symbolize those not "born again" -- that part of the
church membership which cannot be represented by
Immanuel. A parallel is found in the allegory of Ishmael
and Isaac, typifying the "born after the flesh" and the
"born after the Spirit" -- the non-Christian Jew and the
Christian Jew. (See Galatians 4:22-31.)
Tract 14 35 24
Isa 8:5 The LORD spake also unto me again, saying,
8:6 Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of
Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's
son;
8:7 Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon
them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the
king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over
all his channels, and go over all his banks:
8:8 And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow
and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the
stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land,
O Immanuel. 25
Isa 8:9 Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be
broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird
yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves,
and ye shall be broken in pieces.
8:10 Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought;
speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.
8:11 For the LORD spake thus to me with a strong hand,
and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this
people, saying,
8:12 Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this
people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor
be afraid. 26
INSPIRATION

27
My Instructor slowly and solemnly spoke the
following words: "Form a confederacy; to whom
they shall say, 'Form a confederacy, and they shall
be broken in pieces." Three times were these
words spoken. "Associate yourselves, O ye people,
and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all
ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be
broken in pieces. Take counsel together, and it
shall come to naught; speak the word, and it shall
not stand; for God is with us."
{Publishing Ministry 150.4} 28
The very highest obligation is resting
upon us. Satan is standing ready,
burning with zeal to inspire the whole
confederacy of satanic agencies, that
he may cause them to unite with evil
men, and bring upon the believers of
truth speedy and severe suffering.
{Counsels to Writings 61.2} 29
Isa 8:13 Sanctify the Lord of hosts himself; and
let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
8:14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a
stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both
the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the
inhabitants of Jerusalem.
8:15 And many among them shall stumble, and
fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
8:16 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among
my disciples. 30
Isa 8:17 And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the
house of Jacob, and I will look for him.
8:18 Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs
and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount
Zion.
8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar
spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people
seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this
word, it is because there is no light in them.
8:21 And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall
come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and
curse their king and their God, and look upward.
8:22 And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness,
dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness. 31
"And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto
them that have familiar spirits, and unto
wizards that peep and that mutter: shall not
a people seek unto their God? for the living
to the dead? To the law and to the testimony:
if they speak not according to this word, it is
because there is no light in them." This
warning is given for the days in which we
are now living.

Fear Trap

38
Obvious it is, then, that to punish any
apostate and hypocritical Christian nation,
Heaven may send upon it the red scourge
of atheistic Communism (though the
Scriptures make certain that it is doomed
in the struggle for world supremacy for the
reason that its ungodly end is to blot
Christianity from the face of the earth).
Military Stand 13 39
From these scriptures it is seen that the
current events brought about by the two
opposing blocks, the east and the west,
are not going to work out according to
human planning, that the plans made by
the confederation of nations and people
are to come to naught except they consult
God and take Him into partnership.

Let us now hear what the Lord would have us do,
the stand He would have His people take:
Isa. 8:11, 12 -- "For the Lord spake thus to me with a
strong hand, and instructed me that I should not
walk in the way of this people, saying, Say ye not, A
confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall
say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be
afraid."
The fear which the people fear is not to be our fear;
neither are their plans to be our plans.

Nah. 1:10,11 "For while they be folden together as
thorns [united with others to protect themselves], and
while they are drunken as drunkards [filled with theory],
they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry [as when fire
sweeps through it]. There is one come out of thee [out
of a nation characterized by ancient Assyria], that
imagineth evil against the Lord, a wicked counsellor." In
the light of these passages, it becomes clear from the
outset that though "Assyria" is armed and allied with
other strong nations ("folden together as thorns"), yet
neither her armament nor her alliance will save her.
Tract 14 7-8 43
And now while the cold war between the east and west is on,
the churches, too, by the Amsterdam confederacy, are enlarging
the size of each block. Both radio broadcasts and newspapers
declare that all the churches except the Roman and the Russian
orthodox churches did send representatives to the Amsterdam
assembly. The Russian orthodox church, you know, is the Greek
orthodox church. And why do you suppose the church that is in
Greece joined the confederacy, but the church that is in Russia
did not? Only because of fearing the "block" they are in. The
churches, too, are taking sides with their respective block --
Eastern or Western. (What will the Roman church do? She,
too, will of necessity eventually join the Western block.)

WILL THE CHURCHES UNITE BEFORE EZEKIEL 9?
Question:
"Will the nominal churches be united, before the slaughter of Ezekiel
9, and before the Loud Cry of the Third Angel's message takes place?"
Answer:
The churches may incompletely confederate almost any time, but the
union of church and state (the image of the beast) will take place only
after the "investigative judgment" of the dead is completed, for the
fact that the "anger of the nations" (the time of trouble, Dan. 12:1),
"the wrath of God" (the seven last plagues, Rev. 15:1, and the "time to
judge the dead" (Dan. 8:14), are events separate and distinct, one
following the other." -- "Early Writings," p. 36.

Tract 12 53
Now the statement "Take counsel together, and it shall
come to naught; speak the word, and it shall not stand:
for God is with us," plainly says what I tried to tell you
-- that the nations, including the churches, have left
Immanuel, "God with us," out of their plans, that
what they are trying to do they are doing on their
own initiative and resources for the words "God is
with us" coming from one who is not with the
assemblies of the people, clearly implies that
Immanuel is not with them, and that therefore their
work shall come to naught.
Timely Greetings, Vol. 2, No. 41 19 47
The fear which the people fear is not to be our fear;
neither are their plans to be our plans. Our duty is to--
Isa. 8:13 -- "Sanctify the Lord of hosts Himself; and let
Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread."
To sanctify the Lord is to be all for Him, to have no one
else in His stead, to put your entire trust in Him, not
making flesh your arm, for He alone is able to see you
through. And though you should be the only one in
all the world to take such a stand, He will not fail you.
If such be your case, you will then become Heaven's
greatest hero. Timely Greetings, Vol. 2, No. 41 20 48
The statement, "God is with us," implies that He is not with
the nations that are affiliating themselves for mutual
protection, and that therefore they shall be broken, whereas
His followers shall then be delivered. Nevertheless, for God
to be "with us" in this special sense, we must of course make
a special effort to be with Him. And to do this, we must
sincerely study His way and follow joyously in His stately
steps, which lead us to a full knowledge of the prophetic
mysteries, enabling us to avoid the pitfalls, and to stand
though all others fall. So, following on to know the Way, the
Truth, and the Life, we continue our inquiry into Isaiah's
prophecy.
Tract 14 44 49
Most Christians know that there are two classes in the church --
wheat and tares -- but few, if any, seem to care. We, as reformers
though, especially since we have been given this great light on
the subject, cannot afford to be indifferent. We may now
intelligently choose to be "wheat" or choose to be "tares." If
after knowing this Truth, some choose to be "tares," they, of
course, will have gained nothing and need not be surprised when
they land in hell.
At the time labor and capital are in a clash, then it is that
Jerusalem (the church) shall be searched, as it were, with
candles. Consequently, the men who have settled in their
houses, those who act as though the Lord has forsaken the earth
shall have their punishment.

any Divinely-revealed truth at any time in

truth, they are becoming as hostile against

see that while Heaven and earth wearily wait
upon Christians to take the offensive against all
unrighteousness, the power of evil is exerting an
utterly sinister influence through Christless men

stark peril of it hurls its challenge at Christendom
as a whole. What shall we do about it? Close our

The term, "Judah," attaches to the Christian church
not only because of antitypical significance but also
because of hereditary factor…. The church herself
therefore, is the daughter of the Kingdom of Judah.
Hence she is appropriately still called Judah.
While she is by virtue of parentage, faithfulness, and
purity (absence of tares) entitled to be called
"Judah," still because of their last-day lukewarmness
and the resultant infiltration of "tares" into her
membership, she is, of necessity, additionally
termed "Laodicea." Tract 14 20-21 57

The prophecy of Isaiah 3 was presented before me as
applying to these last days, and the reproofs are given to
the daughters of Zion who have thought only of
appearance and display. Read verse 25: "Thy men shall fall
by the sword, and thy mighty in the war." I was shown that
this scripture will be strictly fulfilled. Young men and
women professing to be Christians, yet having no Christian
experience, and having borne no burdens and felt no
individual responsibility, are to be proved. They will be
brought low in the dust and will long for an experience in
the things of God, which they have failed to obtain. War
lifts his helmet to his brow; O God, protect Thy people now.
86
Isa. 3:25 -- "Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the
war."
If the daughters of Zion fail to reform, then their men shall fall by
the sword. Do you want me to tell you why their men will fall by
the sword? -- Because no sincere Christian boy in his right senses,
will ever as much as consider marrying a girl that dresses as a
hypocrite dresses. And so if such a worldly-minded girl is ever to
get married, what kind of man will she get? -- Not an informed
Christian in present Truth, I am sure. She will get the kind of man
that does not have God's protection over him, the kind that is to
fall in the war, the war that is fought while God's people are
being delivered. (Re-read Tract No. 14.) If you want to save your
men, then quit fooling with the Devil. Get to be God's true
representatives. Timely Greetings, Vol. 1, No. 6 31 87

The measuring
of the temple of
God and the war
94
Rev 11:1 And there was given me a reed
like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying,
rise, and measure the temple of God, and
the altar, and them that worship therein.
11:2 But the court which is without the
temple leave out, and measure it not; for it
is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city
shall they tread under foot forty and two
months. 95
Angels of God are sent to measure the temple
and the worshipers therein. The Lord looks with
sadness upon those who are serving their idols,
with no care for the souls perishing in darkness
and error. He cannot bless the church who feel it
no part of their duty to be laborers together
with God. What a terrible thing it is to exclude
Christ from His own temple! What a loss to the
church!

Rev Chapter 11
1 (ch. 20:12, 13; 1 Peter 4:17; 2 Peter 1:10, 11). Measuring the Church of God.--
The grand judgment is taking place, and has been going on for some time. Now the
Lord says, Measure the temple and the worshipers thereof. Remember when you
are walking the streets about your business, God is measuring you; when you are
attending your household duties, when you engage in conversation, God is
measuring you. Remember that your words and actions are being daguerreotyped
[photographed] in the books of heaven, as the face is reproduced by the artist on
the polished plate. . . . {7BC 972.1}
Here is the work going on, measuring the temple and its worshipers to see who
will stand in the last day. Those who stand fast shall have an abundant entrance
into the kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. When we are doing our
work remember there is One that is watching the spirit in which we are doing it.
Shall we not bring the Saviour into our everyday lives, into our secular work and
domestic duties? Then in the name of God we want to leave behind everything
that is not necessary, all gossiping or unprofitable visiting, and present ourselves as
servants of the living God {7BC 972.2} 97

Rev. 11:2 -- "But the court which is without the temple leave

and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two
months."
Seven times seven, forty-nine, determined the year of
Jubilee, the liberation of the people and of the land, the
type of the Kingdom complete. Besides any other
significance, the forty-two months being only six sevens, it
signifies that the holy city, Jerusalem, will not be "trodden
down" all the way up to the time of the antitypical Jubilee, --
the Gentiles are to be driven out of it before the Mystery of
God is finished, before the seventh angel begins to sound.

“But why leave out the court? Why not measure it also? For since it is a
part of the building, it, too, must be symbolical of saints. Obviously
because it represents the "great multitude, which no man could number
[measure], of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues" (Rev.
7:9) -- the last who come from among the Gentiles. The "court," in other
words, is symbolical of the immeasurable (innumberable) harvest of
second fruits brought in after the measurable (numerable) harvest of first
fruits -- the 144,000. It is not measured (investigated), because it
represents those among whom there are no "bad" to be cast out; for they
are gathered in after the cleansing of the heavenly temple (Dan. 8:14) --
after the judgment of the dead -- after the separation of "the bad" from
among "the good" in the church, as illustrated by the parable of the net
(Matt. 13:47, 48). They are those who by name, "My people" (Rev. 18:4),
are called to come out of Babylon, and who, with no unclean among them
(Isa. 52:1), come into the already purified and living church of God….
Tract 5 110-111
Here we see, first, that the heathen
powers in their scattering of God's ancient
people, are represented as four horns, and
later, in their casting out the Gentiles, they

fulfilled." Luke 21:24. Tract 12 50

Nahum makes clear that in this conflict God
interposes against Assyria… Having set Himself to
humble her, He therefore strengthens the arms of
her enemy. Accordingly, Assyria falls, not because
she is weak and small nor because she is out-
numbered and out-matched, but because God's
purpose determines her downfall. In other words,
the coalition which may have the greater resources
and man-power, and which from the human point
of view may seem sure to win, is in this case sure to
lose. Tract 14 pg. 26-27 109
The fourth verse definitely implies that the "nation" is
to gather together in the cities of Gaza, Ashkelon,
Ashdod, and Ekron, in the land of the Philistines, in the
land of Canaan -- in Palestine. In view of the fact that
this scripture is now being unfolded, and also the fact
that there is but one people, one nation (the
descendants of the ancient scribes, priests, and
Pharisees who rejected the Lord and who have not
even to this day accepted Him, that are hardly desired
anywhere in the world) that is now doing all she can to
gather together in Palestine Timely

in view of all this, the present-day Jews are
that undesired nation. Upon her,
therefore, the Lord's anger is to fall if she
continues to deny Christ. Yes, the
universally hated Jew is the only nation
that has been scattered throughout the
Gentile world, and is the only one that is
now gathering together in Palestine.

Zeph. 2:12, 13 -- "Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by My
sword. And He will stretch out his hand against the north, and
destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry
like a wilderness." The capital city of Assyria (the power that
rules the people) is to become a desolation. This Nineveh is
evidently the antitype of ancient Nineveh, as is the Babylon of
The Revelation the antitype of ancient Babylon. The summary of
this chapter is this: The hated Jews of today are not to be the
admired Jews of tomorrow. The means which the Jews now
pursue to gain admission to Palestine are not the means that
would establish them there for ever even if they should succeed
in getting there. The only Jews and Arabs that may remain in
the land will be those who seek the Lord, the God of Moses.

Here the prophet predicts that Assyria's capital city
will be emptied, and her palace dissolved. Clearly,
then, the kingdom of Judah is set up in time of war
and turmoil… Moreover, since this antitypical
Assyria's fall liberates God's people, and since from
then on the wicked no longer pass through their
midst, the time and the events are solidly clinched:

all these facts show that though Communism

Troubles
upon the

Four mighty angels are still holding the
four winds of the earth…. and the winds
will be the stirring up of the nations to
one deadly combat, while the angels
hold the four winds, forbidding the
terrible power of Satan to be exercised in
its fury until the servants of God are
sealed in their foreheads.
{ML 308.2}
You notice here that the angels are not told to hold the winds
until Ezekiel 9 has all been fulfilled, but until the servants of
God are sealed. Therefore, if there is any intervening time
between the close of the sealing and the slaughter of Ezekiel 9,
there is a possibility that the winds could start blowing during
that time. If the nations had everything ready, it would not
necessarily take long to bring the trouble that is represented by
the four winds. We do know from this scripture that God will
restrain the winds until the sealing is finished, for according to
verse 3 of this chapter a message was sent to the four angels
instructing them to hold the winds until the sealing of the
144,000 is finished. It shows that the Devil is doing all he can to
loose the winds as soon as possible, perhaps even in a day.
