Greetings to all in the matchless name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We have entered another new month of this year. At the very outset I praise
and thank God for His unfailing love and mercy showered upon us
throughout the last month. Let us continue to ask God to embrace us with
the warmth of His divine love even during this cold winter.
The month of July has a unique importance in the lives of Indian Christians
as we celebrate the St. Thomas day on 3rd July. As per the church tradition,
St. Thomas is revered as the ‘Apostle of India.’ Let’s put aside for some time
the historical and theological debates on the arrival of the Apostle to Kerala
and the incidents followed. We need to focus on the life of Apostle Thomas
and his personal encounter with the risen Lord found in the Gospel of John
20: 24 – 29.
Popular interpretation of this passage as the story of ‘doubting Thomas’
misses the point. This is not about Thomas’s doubt and skepticism, but
about the abundant grace of Jesus who meets Thomas’s demand in order
to move him to faith. If we try to brand Thomas as a doubting Thomas, then
it is same with the other disciples too. Thomas is not different from all the
disciples who earlier had not accepted Mary’s verbal witness on Jesus’
resurrection and had locked themselves away. (v.19ff).
Thomas demands no more than what the other disciples needed to change
from fear to joy, it was the physical appearance of Jesus. ‘My Lord and my
God’ the most powerful confession of Jesus’ identity in the Gospel, as
Thomas sees God fully revealed in Jesus. Thomas did not touch Jesus; it is
Jesus’ offer of himself that brings Thomas to faith. His personal encounter
with the risen Jesus empowered him to go out to the world and preach the
good news.

Cont.............

Last month I had the privilege to visit some of our member’s homes and have
fellowship. I thank them for the warm hospitality extended to me and my
family. I wish to visit others also in the days to come according to your
convenience.
We had a wonderful VBS based on the theme ‘In His steps’. Fifty children
attended with much enthusiasm, learning the Word of God through Bible
lessons, Songs, and activities. I thank and appreciate everyone who toiled
behind the success of VBS.
I urge you to continue to spend time in reading and meditating upon the Word
of God and personal prayer to strengthen our relationship with God. And be
generous to share your resources for the extension of the Gospel and building
up of God’s Kingdom.
Shalom !
