Learning objective : (KEEPING IN MIND BLOOMS Skills :
TAXONOMY) Think and research
Students will be able to: measuring
 check their previous knowledge on valences in order
to form compounds.
 student will be able to write the reactions of acids and
bases.
 understand the properties of acids and bases.
 describes importance of pH uses and preparation of
bleaching powder, washing soda, baking soda, plaster
of Paris, Multiple Intelligence :
 explain the reaction of acids and bases
 distinguish between metallic and non-metallic oxides
 analyse difference in reactions of acids and bases.
 Use and depict the pH value of different substances

Day / Date Strategies / Activities Resources ( web links / teaching aids )

Day 1  Students will compare the properties of acids and bases by observing the
reactions of NaOH & HCl with Na2CO3 and Zn.
 On the basis of above reactions students will formulate and write their
observations in the form of general chemical reactions:

Students will observe and conclude for the reaction between acids and bases with Properties of Acids and Bases (Animation) : Class
metallic oxides and non-metallic oxides with the help of lab experiments. 10 : Chemistry : Amrita Online Lab (olabs.edu.in)

VUCA
Activity for self-assessment on chemical properties of acids:

 Students will make paper craft method to arrange correct product to the

right reactants.
 Students can think and pair to enhance critical thinking with TASK
Home-assessment
Activity worksheet based on CRAB with SDG- 9

Day 2  With the help of stimulations, students will understand the reaction
between acids and bases and will illustrate neutralization reaction.
 Students will use universal indicator to find the pH of NaOH, CH3COOH,
HCl, lemon juice, samples of soils collected. (subjected to change)
 Students will understand how to use pH paper to differentiate and identify
a substance as acidic or basic in nature.
On the basis of use of pH paper, students will write ranges of pH for acidic and Determine pH with pH indicator strips / universal
basic substances.  indicator solution (Animation) : Class 10 :

DESIGN THINKING-
Empathy question: How can we regulate acid formation in stomach which is the
cause for ulcer and migraine? Activity based on design thiking

Day 3  With the help of chemical equations and PPT, students will understand the
formation and properties of various salts:  PPT
 Sodium Hydroxide https://bit.ly/3J4v0vl
 Sodium Chloride (Common Salt)
 Calcium Oxychloride (Bleaching Powder)
 Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate (Baking Soda)
 Baking Powder
 Sodium Bicarbonate Decahydrate (Washing Soda)
 Copper Sulphate Hemihydrate (Plaster of Paris –POP)

Discussion of application of these chemicals in our day-to-day life.

HOME ASSESSMENT-
Revision with Flowchart diagram for self-assessment of various salts

Day 4  Role play by two students-one citing physical properties of metals and the
other non- metals
 Chemical properties of metals (reaction with air, water, acids and salt
solutions
 Explanation of topic through assessment by CHEMBOLA

CASE STUDY  Concept closure: The students will do a case study on Bellandur lake,
Bangalore-the lake that keeps catching fire and ascertain the effect of
industrial effluents on the lake ecosystem. They will do research and try to
find the possible solutions to the problem. It is related to SDG 14.
(Competency based)

The students will analyse the data and evaluate the interventions that can
be done to produce desired results.

CASE STUDY  Subject integration with social science on effect of acid rain on
monuments and soil along with its control. Students need to analyse the
data and evaluate the interventions that can be done to produce desired
results in form of a project. It is related to SDG 14. (Competency based)
