HOUSEKEEPING :

improve not only the safety on the job, but also the morale and productivity
of the job.
During site clean up , the responsible & adequate waste management can
save time , money and environment if follow Waste Management Procedure.
THINGS TO REMEMBER :
 Keep scrap lumber with protruding nails separate from other debris
 Bend nails over or remove from lumber.
 Keep all waste debris in neat piles and away from the immediate work
area.
 Remove debris from the job on a regular basis.
 Keep aisles, stairways and walkways clear.
 Store materials only in their designated areas.
 Place trash barrels where needed to eliminate food rubbish.
 Keep tools and equipment stored neatly.
 Keep extension cords from being across walkways. If necessary, run them
overhead; same applies to air compressor hoses.
 Don’t let trash and debris build up. If it does, make an extra effort to get
it cleaned up.
 Good Housekeeping Can:
 Prevent minor injuries like cuts, punctures, slivers
 Prevent major accidents like slips, trips, falls and fires
 Increase job productivity by speeding up the movement of workers and
materials on the job
 Keep compliance inspectors from visiting the job.

WASTE DISPOSAL
The best practice applied to the management and disposal of waste on
our sites has two major benefits:-
1. A tidy site has a good image, emphasizing safety, efficiency and
care for the environment.
2. The minimization, management and appropriate disposal of waste
can be economically beneficial and has numerous environmental
benefits.
 Compliance with the following points will help to achieve these
benefits:-
 Always follow waste separation procedures by using suitably
labeled containers in order to separate waste streams that can be
recycled e.g. metals, wood, plastics and paper can all be recycled.
 Ensure that waste containers are close to the point of work to
promote their usage.
 Avoid the storing of waste adjacent to watercourses as this creates
an immediate pollution hazard.
 Ensure that all contaminated wastes are either stored within
suitable containers or membranes to prevent secondary
contamination of clean soil or water routes.
 Remember that clean wastes such as concrete and brick can be
used as fill on site.
 It is not only solid waste that requires consideration, liquid waste
spills must also be
 carefully controlled; wastes such as oil, chemicals and wet concrete
should be collected and removed from the site by an appropriate
contractor.
 It is very important that the source of any waste is identified by the
waste transfer note which must always accompany the waste
