TUTORIAL QUESTIONS

1. With reference to the ideas of various scholars in the respective schools of thought, as
well as relevant legal authorities and practical examples, examine the definition of law
and highlight the most appropriate definition in view of the legal system in Uganda.

2. Citing relevant practical examples and legal authorities evaluate the theories of
jurisprudence and show the relevance of these theories to Uganda.

3. Analyse the importance of jurisprudence in view of the ideas of different philosophers

and support your answers with relevant legal authorities and practical examples.

4. Examine the distinction between the concepts provided below and cite relevant ideas of
scholars, legal authorities and practical examples to support your answers.
a) Law and ethics
b) Law and morality
c) Law and religion
d) Law and custom
e) Law and justice
5. With reference to relevant philosophical ideas and legal authorities, analye the notion of a
state and show its relevance to the development and application of law in Uganda.

6. The notion of “right” has been the subject of different discussions and several scholars
have attempted to define the term as well as identify the source and application of such
rights.
In view of the ideas of philosophers and relevant legal authorities, discus the above
statement.

7. Evaluate the relevance of the concept of Ubuntu to Uganda and support your answer with
relevant legal authorities.
