3. Electrical connection
All installation work may only be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with the relevant
regulations. Electrical installation on site has to be carried out in such a way that overload and
short-circuit protection of all lines and operating equipment is ensured.
3-pole line circuit breakers of characteristic K are recommended.
All electrical installations must comply with the VDE regulations.
Main equipotential bonding and additional local equipotential bonding between all conductive
parts (guide rail, mixer, immersed vessel, actuating device, catch,
Wire cable, installation frame, cover, service cover etc.) and the earthed conductor of the
operating equipment are to be carried out on site. Effectiveness is to be recorded and regularly checked.

When using remote controls / switches, the following points must also be observed. The control/switch
is to be made weather-proof in the operating and visible area of the mixer.
If this is not the case, an EMERGENCY-STOP switch must be provided by the customer in this area.
The regulations of VDE 0113 or other existing regulations are to be observed.

3.1 Neutral wire

The neutral wire must be routed to the switch or control system. 5-core wires must be used for
extensions.

3.2 Residual current device

A residual current device (RCD) with a maximum rated residual current of 30 mA is also to be installed
by the customer in addition to the specified fuse protection for each individual mixer. In the event of
a fault, this RCD should disconnect all power circuits, including the seal control and thermal sensor.

3.3 Nameplate
Before connecting the mixer, make sure the ratings on the nameplate coincide with the available
mains voltage and frequency.

3.4 Thermal monitoring

Thermal contacts are installed in the submersible motor for temperature monitoring. This ensures
that the motor is reliably switched off in the event of inadequate cooling.
In addition, a motor protection switch must be used.
The motor protection switch / motor protection relay must be temperature-compensated and
phase failure sensitive.

The motor cannot be switched on again until it has cooled down.

3.5 Electronic leakage control

An electrode is installed in the gearbox oil compartment which indicates the ingress of fluid via a signal
lamp of the electronic evaluation system (on the switch or in the control box).
When a fault is indicated, change the oil and check the motor compartment (see 5. Maintenance and
inspection). If the lamp lights up again, the mechanical seal must be replaced.
Attention: this leakage control is a very important component to ensure that the mixer functions correctly.
At the same time it is an item of operating equipment which ensures protection.
It is not permitted to operate the unit without the leakage control.
Correct functioning is to be checked and ensured on start-up and monitored at regular, short intervals.
The electronic evaluation system required for this is available as an accessory (not included in the
scope of supply of the mixers GTWSB and GTWSI).

3.6 Motor protection

When motor protection switches are used with only a bi-metal actuator, no reliable shut-down is ensured
in the event of overheating, i.e. the thermal contacts installed in the submersible motor must be looped
with the control power circuit.
The thermal contacts are designed as normally closed (standard: 230V AC, 1.6 A max.)

3.7 Unit cable

To mount a control/switch, the mixer should be lowered completely due to the length of cable available.
Only original cable or line terminals may be used.
The distance between the cable clamps must not exceed 50 cm (GTWSB: 70 cm). All screws are to be
protected against working loose.
In areas in which scraping against structural parts is to be expected, the connection cable should
be additionally protected and / or fixed. The connection cable, protective tube and line terminals are
to be checked at regular, short intervals for damage and replaced after 2 years at the latest.

3.8 Recommended protective equipment

To prevent a potentially dangerous situation and prevent operation of the mixer when not submerged
as quickly as possible, we strongly recommend installation
of an automatic load gauge which switches the mixer off when it runs empty.

4. Start-up

4.1 Free movement

Before start-up and after long periods of standstill, free movement is to be checked by turning the
propeller to and fro (first disconnect unit from power supply).

4.2 Checking oil level (see 5. Maintenance and inspection)

Before start-up, the specified oil level is to be checked by unscrewing the oil filler plug marked in red
(01 19 mm af).

Submersible Mixer GTWS/B/I 740/1040/1540/204/254/304

4.3 Direction of rotation

Select the “thrust“ direction. The propeller should rotate anti-clockwise (GTWS740/1040) as you
look at it from the frontside of the propeller, clockwise at GTWS 1540/204/254/304.
The original EISELE switch has a phase inverter. If the propeller rotates in the wrong direction, press
the screwdriver into the slot in the plug and rotate the contacts by 180° until the phase
inverter is re-engaged.

4.4 Checks
If there are no obstacles in the tank, can the mixer make contact anywhere?
Does the mixer also turn (two-phase cycle or blockage)? Switch off immediately and do not wait until
thermal contacts are triggered!
All screws and connections are to be checked for tight fit. These checks are to be repeated at regular
intervals.
The wire cable /plastic cable must not rub or jam anywhere.
The anti-rotation device must be secured with additional limit stops in such a way that the propeller
does not make contact even if the retaining bolts work loose.

4.5 Attention
When moving the mixer, pay attention to the connection cable.
The wire cable must always be taut. With a loose wire cable, the mixer could suddenly swing against
the cable and damage it.
Do not operate the mixer half submerged. Vibrations on the mixer and walls are too great.
Operation is only permitted when the mixer is covered with at least 0.6 m of fluid.
If oscillations and vibrations beyond the normal amount occur during operation, the unit is to be shut
down immediately and inspected. This also applies to all fastenings, connections and cable clamps.

5. Maintenance and inspection

All maintenance and inspection work etc. may only be carried out when the electrical system is to be
disconnected and protected against being switched on again.
During all inspection and maintenance work, no explosive atmosphere may exist.
Maintenance and service work may only be carried out by qualified, experienced personnel.

5.1 Cleaning
The mixer is to be regularly cleaned of external encrustation and blockages.
If corrosion becomes visible, it must be rectified by suitable means.

5.2 Check connection cable and fastenings

The motor cable is to be checked at regular, short intervals for bends and pinches as well as for
damage.
The cable protection system (protective tube, cable clamps) is also to be checked for damage, pinches,
moved or loose clamps etc.

5.3 Cable winch and fixing cable

When EISELE hoisting tackle is used, the cable winch and the wire cable must be checked according
to conditions of use, but at least once a year. The bearing bushes of the drive shaft and the drum hub
are to be oiled regularly and the crown gear greased.
The brake mechanism itself must not be lubricated. It must be possible to turn the hand crank freely
counter-clockwise without load.
The wire cable (where applicable plastic cable) is to be checked for fibrous fractures, pinches and
other damage along the complete length.

5.4 Checking the gearbox oil

The oil should be checked every 6 months, or after 500 operating hours at the latest. To do this,
unscrew the red screw plug (01 19mm af) and insert a thin object diagonally downwards in order to
remove a sample of oil from the bottom area. If the oil contains too much foreign fluid, it will have
a strongly emulsified (creamy) appearance and should be changed. This inspection should be
repeated 14 days after changing the oil.
If the oil still contains too much foreign fluid, this probably means that the outer mechanical seal is
defective. This should only be repaired at a specialist workshop.

The oil must come up to the prescribed level. If necessary, top it up with normal transmission oil
SAE 80-90. Do not overfill, but leave an air cushion to allow the oil to expand with heat.

5.5 Insulation measurement

Every 6 months, but at the latest after every 500 operating hours, an insulation measurement of the
connection cable is to be carried out. The sensor wire must be disconnected and the thermal contacts
connections short-circuited in order not to damage sensitive electronic components. The test voltage
must be selected so that the insulations are not destroyed.

5.6 Motor inspection

The motor compartment is to be inspected when the oil is checked. The screw plug of the inspection
opening is to be removed (03 13mm af). If fluid runs out, the mixer must no longer be operated; slight oil
leakages of the axial seal may be present. Have the mixer checked by a specialist company.
Check smooth running of the mixer, its gear and all bearings by turning.

5.7 Oil change

An oil change is to be carried out at least once a year or if used daily for long periods after every 1000
operating hours. Unscrew red screw plug (01 19mm af), release any overpressure. Unscrew oil drain
plug (02 24mm af). Ensure that the oil is thoroughly drained before filling with new oil. The Dowty rings
necessary for sealing the plugs are to be replaced.
The air space remaining above the oil is essential and enables thermal expansion of the oil.

5.8 Changing the propeller
Before dismantling the propeller, allow any excess pressure in the oil chamber to escape by
loosening the red plug screw (01 19mm af) slightly and then tightening it again. The mechanical
seal remains on the shaft. Before assembly, clean the shaft end and feather key, remove
any burs and treat with fretting rust preventives (anti-seize or possibly grease/oil).
Use new securing elements.

5.9 Other
All screw connections are to be checked regularly for tight fit.

The customer is to ensure that all protective and monitoring equipment is connected and functional.
This is to be permanently ensured with suitable measures.

6. Repairs
Repairs beyond those mentioned above may only be carried out in the Eisele factory or in a
specialist workshop authorised by us.

6.1 Bearings
The bearings are to be completely replaced at the latest after 11000 operating hours.

6.2 Mechanical seals

The mechanical seals are to be replaced at the latest after every 3000 operating hours or after
2 years. Mechanical seals may only be replaced completely. Mechanical seals which have been
removed (disassembled) once must not be reinstalled.

6.3 Cables and cable protections systems

The connection cable, protective cable tube and cable clamps must be replaced at least every
2 years. Damaged cables must never continue to be used.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Agitator won't start.

Check: -residual-current-operated circuit breaker, main switch and fuses
-Motor previously overloaded, thermal switches activated
due to -two-phase operation
-overload
-inadequate cooling due to insufficient submersion depth

Eliminate the cause of the error and let the agitator cool down before switching it on again.

7.2 Leak test indicator lamp illuminated.
Change oil as described in section 5.7. If the indicator lamp lights up again after a short time, this
means that foreign fluid has got into the gearbox between the motor and agitator. Continued
operation can cause serious damage to the seals, bearing and motor. Such damage is not covered
by the guarantee. In this case, the outer mechanical seal is probably defective.
The damage may only be repaired by a specialist workshop.

7.3 RCD device

If the residual-current-operated circuit breaker is activated, the instructions in section 5.6 must be
observed without fail.

8. Safety instructions
Please take explosion protection very seriously. Observe all relevant regulations and safety
instructions. The slightest carelessness may cause serious damage to property and injuries!
All maintenance work etc. may only be carried out when the unit is disconnected from the power
supply and protected against being switched on again.
The windings are to be discharged, all wires disconnected and short-circuited.
Electrostatic charges and mechanical sparks must always be avoided.

8.1 The applicable regulations concerning

-industrial safety
-plant design
-and electrical connection
e.g. specifications of professional associations, VDE (German Engineering Association), etc.
must be strictly observed.

8.2 Toxic gases! Risk of explosion!

Most of the fluids processed consist of fermenting biomass (e.g. liquid manure, sludge), which
can form toxic and explosive gases. The release of these gases is intensified by pumping and
stirring actions.
For this reason, smoking and naked flames are prohibited, adequate ventilation must be
ensured, and the specifications of the professional association must be observed.

8.3 Use in agriculture

Binding threads, strings and similar matter in liquid manure lead to operating faults in the mixer.
These threads will not rot . The long-fibres of the threads wrap themselves around the propeller,
often resulting in a significantly reduced output. Such threads may also get caught between the
propeller and gear case and so destroy the seal. In your own interest, please bear in mind the
possible disadvantages of discharging these threads into the liquid manure cycle.
