What’s New

ImageChecker C v8.3 CAD Server

ImageChecker C v8.3 is a server computer, intended
specifically for the Citra Mammography Applications
Suite, that uses R2’s Gold Standard CAD software to
analyze digital mammography images for display on a
Citra Workstation. The new v8.3 software offers
R2 Technology’s latest features, including EmphaSize
CAD marks, PeerView Digital, and the choice of three
algorithm thresholds, independently selectable, for calci-
fications and masses. ImageChecker C v8.3 can process
images from an expanded range of digital mammogra-
phy (FFDM) devices. ImageChecker C v8.3 CAD servers
offer:
Improved Algorithm Performance. The new software
provides an improved algorithm with higher sensitivity at
any given false-mark rate, solidifying R2 Technology’s
position as the market leader. The software now offers
three operating points (thresholds) when processing ana-
log (film) or digital images to accommodate differing radi-
ologist preferences. The performance of the system for
each of the three operating points as measured on
R2 Technology’s film database is summarized in the fol-
lowing table.
EmphaSize™. All sites with v8.3 ImageChecker Mam-
mography Systems can now elect to display variable-size
marks on R2 Technology workstations and display units.
When the algorithm determines that a region is more
significant, it shows a larger CAD mark, indicating that
the region should receive more attention from the radi-
ologist. EmphaSize is designed to draw the radiologist’s
attention to those regions containing mammographic
features the algorithm deems to be most indicative of
malignancy.
PeerView Digital is an optional feature available on
some digital review workstations that enables the radi-
ologist to better understand why a region of interest was
marked. PeerView Digital highlights individual calcifica-
tions and outlines the central density of each mass,
thereby helping the radiologist visualize and analyze fea-
tures that may indicate malignancy.
RightView is an optional feature used to create ‘for
presentation’ images from GE ‘for processing’ images.
RightView images are high-contrast, similar to those pro-
duced by other popular processing algorithms.

ImageChecker D v8.3 is R2 Technology's newest high-
end digital CAD server, functioning as a stand-alone unit
that interfaces with an expanded range of digital mam-
mography (FFDM) devices (see previous paragraph). It
offers the new features available with ImageChecker C
v8.3, including EmphaSize CAD marks, PeerView Digital,
and the choice of three operating points, independently
selectable, for calcifications and masses.

Known Issues
6707, 6712: Cases fail if processing unit
is rebooted before they are transmitted to a
printer or display unit. In the event of a net-
work interruption, cases will queue up for
transmission on the ImageChecker Processing
Unit for up to 24 hours. It is not necessary to
reboot the ImageChecker after network con-
nectivity is restored. Doing so will cause all
queued cases to fail. No workaround is avail-
able for this defect. No fix is planned.
7061: Multiple alerts upon transfer of
failed GE case. A GE case that fails to trans-
fer to the configured destination will generate
one alert for each image in the case. There is
no immediate plan to fix.
7084: System does not retain repeat
cases. For digital cases, the user interface
will display only the most recent study in each
series. Identical cases sent more than once
will cause the earlier case to be overwritten.
No fix is planned.
7152: Unable to delete all cases from
Queue Manager (‘connection refused’) error.
To delete cases in the Queue Manager, delete
no more than 100 at a time. No fix is planned.
7189: Malc marks appear differently on PU
and CMU. There is a slight difference in the
appearance of the Malc marks between the
processing unit printouts and the display unit
screens. A fix is tentatively planned for the
next release of CheckMate Ultra and Mam-
molux software.
7198: ‘Unknown’ Study Time on CAD SC
images at PACS. R2 does not define the
Study Time for DigitalNow cases. No fix is
planned.
7199: Incorrect Scan Date/Time on print-
outs for reprocessed cases. PU printouts
generated from reprocessed images will con-
tain a date of 1970-01-01 or 1969-12-31.
No fix is planned.
7275: No explanation when case ‘Failed’
with incorrect output format. If DICOM cases
are sent to a system that does not support the
requested DICOM Service, the case will fail
but no explanation will be provided. Call R2
Service to check system configuration. A fix is
planned for the next scanner release.
7302: Vidar scanner autocalibration causes
failure of scanning case. If one scans cases
simultaneously with scanner’s auto calibra-
tion, the case being scanned will fail. The
default is OFF, and if it does get turned ON,
an R2 Technology service representative
should reset the time at 3 AM (as an example)
using the service tool.
7325: Automatic window leveling for Digi-
talNow needs adjustments. Automatic cali-
bration of Window and Level may not satisfy
your preferences. Contact R2 Service for
manual adjustment of calibration parameters.
A fix is planned for future release.
