vanakkam!

vanakkam
dwija (meaning second birth or twice-born and also an allusion to our
favourite raga Dwijavanthi) was born out of our quest for a

grounding life experience.

The farm lies within the Kaveri watershed and the cradle of Eastern
ghats. The region sees elephant movements and it is in the migration
path of birds and butterflies. We practise natural farming inspired by
the works of Nammazhvar G, Subhash Palekar and Masanobu
Fukuoka

It’s a 3-acre permaculture farm surrounded by farmlands and hillocks

near Denkanikottai (about 55KMs from E-city, Bangalore).

Architecture here is an ode to the works of Geoffrey Bawa and
Anjelandran C. The design is a confluence of vernacular heritage and
modern ethos. Several objects from old South Indian homes /
mansions have found their second home here

We (Karthik and Krishnan) stay in the same property in the private

residence along with our friendly dogs Boots, Bia and Bima. However,
we don’t host other pets since we have several free-ranging life stock
in our farm.

This document has all details about our weekend sojourns. We are
open ONLY on Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Other public holidays

• Lunch will be served at 1:00-2:00 PM, High Tea at 5:00-6:00 PM,
Dinner at 8:30–9:30 PM, Breakfast at 8:30-9:30 AM.

• Kitchen is open between 7:00 AM – 9:30 PM. You could request for
tea/coffee anytime during these hours.

• As a principle we would want our guests to enjoy the quiet and calm

of the place, hence we don’t encourage loud music or any requests for
additional people or extra beds than what is speci ed

• We stay close to a forest and hence we would like our guests to get
inside the premises before 5 pm and leave only after 7 am the next
morning for your safety.

• Every room is curated with artefacts and elements which we have

collected over many years. Of course they are expensive and however
it would cost us more emotionally if broken or mishandled.

• We do not have public waste disposal systems like in cities and we

manage it within the farm. Hence please be mindful of what you leave
behind.

• Waste from the toilets are treated via a localised bio-digester system.

• All our meals are served in our common dining areas.

• We have a wi-fi connection, which works well most of the time.

However we recommend that you do not plan any important video
calls while you are here, since it might take a while for service
disruptions to be rectified.

• Our home runs entirely on solar power and hence we don’t have

amenities like air conditioning, swimming pool, TV, or jacuzzi.

• Hot water for shower comes from a central system and hence you
first need to drain the cold water in the pipeline. Keep only the hot
water tap open and allow the water to drain until the water turns
hot. It might seem like a lot of water wasted, but it all gets recycled
in our grey water system.

• We provide locally sourced chemical-free hair and body wash

powders/soaps. You are free to bring your own toiletries.

Also we don’t host pets since we have other live-stock (chickens/

ducks/guinea-fowls/cows) free-ranging in our farm through the day.
