    START BLAKE
    So… they feedin’ you well here?

    JES
    Well, it’s no mac n cheese.

    Blake laughs weakly. A silence.

    JES (CONT’D)
    It’s good to see you.

    BLAKE
    Good to see you too.

    Another silence.

    JES
    Listen, dad... There’s a lot of things I’m not
    proud of, how I’ve acted the past few months.
    There was a moment when I was out, of oxy. And
    I needed a fix. And I...

    BLAKE
    You went to the bank.

    Jes nods.

    BLAKE (CONT’D)
    $25,000.

    Jes is silent.

    BLAKE (CONT’D)
    I went down to McGoverns this week. Moving
    money from my savings to take care of
    everything going on, and they asked if I wanted
    to close your account. I laughed at them. Why
    would I want to close that account, it’s for my
    daughter’s future.

    JES
    Dad.

    BLAKE
    And they told me that it had been emptied. A
    month ago.

    JES
    I--

    BLAKE
    I told them no, that was impossible, my
    daughter hadn’t gone to college yet. And they
    showed me the bank deposit slip. With my
    signature.
    SHE REACHED FOR HEAVEN 68.

    JES
    I’m so sorry dad.

    BLAKE
    $25,000! Your mother and I worked and worked to
    save that money for you.

    JES
    I am so sorry.

    BLAKE
    And you threw it away on what? What? Can you
    explain to me what it was all for? Because I
    can’t for the life of me understand how my
    daughter could throw away the best thing I got
    to give her.

    JES
    I’m not perfect okay!?

    BLAKE
    Your mother would be so ashamed. After
    everything she went through.

    JES
    Oh you wanna talk about mom? Finally. Let’s
    talk about mom. Let’s talk about what really
    happened to mom.

    BLAKE
    Don’t you dare.

    JES
    Why do you think she was so unhappy? You think
    she liked being left alone every night while
    you went out drinking with your buddies,
    bitching about getting your jobs back?

    BLAKE
    You don’t get to tell me that I messed up.

    JES
    Well someone has to! Mom was hurting, and you
    didn’t wanna see it. But that’s you, dad. If
    you don’t wanna see it, you don’t see it.

    BLAKE
    And look where it got me. A daughter in rehab
    at 17. Thank god your mother didn’t live to see
    this day.

    JES
    I wish she was here instead of you. END
