Uzbekistan and Japan sign a memorandum of cooperation in the field of environmental protection

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Prospects for further intensification of Uzbek-Japanese ties in the field of
ecology were discussed at a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan
Vladimir Norov and the Minister of the Environment of Japan Akihiro Nishimura.

Akihiro Nishimura, who is a member of the Japanese Parliamentary Friendship League with Uzbekistan, informed
that he was impressed with the results of measures taken in our country to protect the environment, combat
climate change, rational use of water resources, and introduce renewable energy sources.

The parties welcomed the signing in October of this year in Tashkent of a Memorandum of Cooperation on the
Joint Lending Mechanism, which provides for the attraction of Japanese investment in order to introduce green
technologies and accelerate the process of decarbonization in Uzbekistan.

Japan is ready to continue to assist Uzbekistan in overcoming the consequences of the drying up of the Aral Sea,
including through participation in activities of the Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Human Security in the Aral Sea
Zone.

As a result of the meeting, a Memorandum was signed between the State Committee of the Republic of
Uzbekistan for Ecology and Environmental Protection and the Ministry of the Environment of Japan on
cooperation in the field of environmental protection.

The document, which was signed on behalf of the Uzbek side by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Norov,
and on the Japanese side by the Minister of the Environment Akihiro Nishimura, is aimed at expanding
cooperation between the environmental departments of the two countries to address and respond to
environmental challenges at the national, regional and global levels.
