This activity involves Year 4 pupils developing reading comprehension and presentation skills through a story sequencing activity and drawing mythical creatures. The teacher separates a short story into flashcards that are placed in a flip box. Students pull out flashcards without seeing them and work together to put the story in order by asking peers what paragraph they have. After sequencing the story, students take turns reading aloud their paragraph. Finally, students complete a worksheet by drawing the other half of a creature to create their own mythical being. The goal is to promote creativity, imagination, and skills in comprehending and retelling a story.

The students will proceed to pull out one flashcard from the box, without allowing themselves to peek at its contents. 4. Once given the green light, the students will finally be able to unveil their flashcards, and will work together to determine the correct sequence of the story by asking their peers which paragraph they have received. 5. After successfully determining the correct order of the story, the students will be required to line up according to the sequence, and then take turns reading their respective paragraphs out loud with the appropriate body language, facial expressions, and intonation. 6. Once the reading exercise has been completed, the teacher will provide the students with a worksheet for them to complete. 7. Specifically, the worksheet will contain half of a drawing, and the students will be tasked with completing the other half of the drawing with a mythical creature they created on their own. JUSTIFICATION By breaking the story into smaller, more manageable chunks, students can focus on the details of each paragraph. Flashcards are a popular study tool because they allow students to review information in a structured and organized way. By working together, students can discuss their understanding of the story and identify any gaps in their knowledge. By reading their paragraphs out loud, students can practice pronouncing words correctly, using appropriate intonation, and conveying the meaning of the text through their tone and body language. By providing a partial drawing, students are given a starting point and can build upon that to create their own unique creature. TEACHING AIDS Flascards Flip box Worksheet
