Forests Reading Comprehension

Teacher Notes
The COP26 Reading Comprehension resources each tackle one of the big issues we are facing
surrounding climate change.

This resource explores:

• why forests are important;
• the impact that deforestation has on climate change and biodiversity;
• solutions to reduce deforestation.

There are three versions of the information sheets provided, along with three sets of differentiated
question sheets and corresponding answer sheets. In most cases, you will use the question sheet that
matches the level of the information sheet. However, you can mix and match the standard and extension
question sheets with the standard and extension information sheets depending on your students’ needs.

The Forests Extension Worksheets include content that links to the GCSE specifications where relevant
and are most likely to be suitable to KS4 learners. Students should be fluent readers to access these
sheets. The specialist language used in the Forests Extension Information Sheet may be demanding
for some students.

The Forests Worksheets include less specialist language and are most likely to be suitable for KS3
learners. The text on the Forests Information Sheet may be more accessible for some KS4 learners.

The Forests Support Worksheets have a reduced amount of text to support individual students or
classes with lower literacy levels. There is also a glossary included on the Forests Support Information
Sheet which explains specialist terms.
