 INTRODUCTION

Paraphrase is a technique of handling written information where the ideas of another author
are expressed in our own words. Among the skills employed we have:
1. Identify the main idea
2. develop a content schema
3. assign one's own wording considering the ideas of the original text
In this activity we will make a paraphrase of a text.

DEVELOPMENT

The text talks about the debate that exists between an advertising campaign of Cancer
Research (CRUK), which highlights the link between obesity and cancer and suggests that
this disease is more likely to be caused by obesity than by external factors such as smoking,
so it has proved to be very controversial; on the other hand, groups in disagreement
consider it as misleading, dangerous and stigmatizing, especially for those who are
overweight or obese. These people say that when people's weight is pointed out as the
problem, without considering environmental factors, the message to them is that cancer is
their fault.
On the other hand, the text also tells us about the publication of two reports which propose
a form of care for the treatment of adults with obesity and some methods for its
management and prevention based on evidence and above all on empathy, as well as these
reports can be used by university and postgraduate medical students; among some points
they comment that the social determinants of health should be considered at the time of
developing the treatment, as well as considering the environment of their home, their work
and their community.
This debate between the two positions seems to have similar objectives, which are that
their governments should modify their governmental policies on the advertising of
unhealthy foods, since these corporations are the ones that continue to benefit from the
promotion of such debates and the change of policy is slow in coming.
