INFORMATIVE SPEECH

Title of Speech : Stretching

General Idea : To Inform

Specific Purpose Statement : To inform my audience about the importance of stretching

during any activities.

Central Idea : There are three main reasons why you should stretch during

any activities: it can increases our blood flow, increases our

flexibility and range of motion, and helps us avoid any injuries

during any activities.

Pattern of Organization : Chronological Order

I. INTRODUCTION

A. Attention Grabber/Getter: Have you guys expose to the habit of stretching

out before workout? Or you guys just skip the golden part and do the workout

straight away?

B. Reveal Topic: if you skip the stretching part, let me tell you about today’s

topic for my speech which is why we should stretching before and after

workout for any activities.

C. Credibility Statement: I have been researching about this topic from different

perspectives. I know that everyone feel stretching is waste of time but as you

guys can see, do not look down at this topic.

D. How Topic Related To Audience: Did you know there is one possibility if

you are not stretching before starting an extreme activity, you might injured

yourself.

1
E. Preview of Main Points: Today I would like to discuss about stretching can

increases our blood flow, increase our flexibility and range of motion and

stretching also can help us avoid any injuries during any activities.

(Connectives) The first thing I'd want to discuss is why athletes, exercisers, and patients

use stretching for body-related activities.

II. BODY

A. Main point 1: stretching has lot of benefits and one of them can help us improve

our blood flow through our muscle.

1. According to my study, stretching is a popular practise among athletes, elderly

persons, rehabilitation patients, and exercisers.

2. For example, a patient with Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) usually has

difficulties walking due to a shortage of oxygen due to the blood not flowing

freely. However, the patient was tested to do some stretching, and as a result,

the patient was able to walk carefully and slowly.

3. Therefore, the researchers discovered that 30 minutes of stretching five days a

week resulted in better blood pressure improvements than a 30-minute walk

five days a week. This was a wonderful thing because stretching does not take

up much space and can easily be done at home.

2
4. According to the American Council on exercise, maintaining a static stretch

for more than five seconds can reduce regional blood supply to the muscle so

the blood flow travels smoothly throughout the body.

(Connectives) Stretching can help exercisers, athletes, and rehabilitation patients boost

blood flow through their muscles, as we have already discussed. Next, I'd want to talk

about why exercisers and athletes keep stretching as part of their practice.

B. Main point 2: Stretching is used by a large number of exercisers and athletes to

develop their flexibility and range of motion.

1. According to, Md Hamidur and Muhamamd Shahidul Islam (2020), the range of

motion must be maintained before any activities and encourage to do some

stretching among the exerciser and athletes so it can improve the muscle

strength

2. If we maintain our practice stretching it can maintain our flexibility. In addition,

we can address the lack of flexibility and poor posture caused by medical

disorders; stiffness and discomfort in our joints and muscles can cause pain, and

if this is sustained, the pain will affect us when stretching properly.

3. A baseball pitcher's dominant shoulder, for example, has a greater range of

external rotation than his other shoulder (Cook et al., 1987; Hellem et al., 2019).

This is due to the fact that this stretching requires muscles to participate in

movement. This is critical in order to increase the baseball player's flexibility.

3
(Connectives) Let's take a minute to reflect on what we've learned so far. We already

know that stretching can increase blood flow and stretching can also help exercisers,

athletes, and patients increase flexibility and range of motion. So now we're ready to

talk about why athletes and exercisers should stretch before and after participating in

activities such as exercise and sports.

C. Main point 3: Another important notion of stretching is that it can help us avoid

any injuries throughout any activity.

1. We can all agree that stretching can help us prevent difficulties like muscle

discomfort and cramping when we perform intense exercise like sports and

workouts. Furthermore, according to my research, stretching should be done

before and after exercise. This stretch is known as a warm up before this

exercise, and it is known as a cold down after this exercise.

2. 89.3% of athletes and people who exercise say they stretch on a regular basis to

avoid injury. (babault et al, 2021). They stretch both before and after

participating in sports. As a result, they stretch in order to avoid injuries during

the exercise.

3. Athletes with high discipline on the other hand, have much lower injury rates

than athletes with low discipline. (Benjaminse, Otten, Gokeler, Diercks, &

Lemmink, 2017). If this attitude persists, it may increase the risk of injury while

exercising.

4
CONCLUSION

Signal the end of the speech: Today, I discussed how stretching can improve our blood

flow, flexibility, and range of motion, as well as why athletes use stretching to prevent injury

throughout any exercise.

Reinforce the central idea: According to Haresh Sippy, stretching your body and mind is

vital for avoiding rigidity. Stretching is not only a simple activity but it also has many

benefits for us, such as keeping our blood flow smoothly inside our bodies, making us move

more flexibly, and protecting our bodies from pain.
