Two Days Technical Course On
Localised Corrosion of
Stainless Steel Weldments
Stainless steels are widely used in chemical and
nuclear plants due to their excellent resistance to
Uniform Corrosion, good weldability & formability and
optimum combination of strength & toughness.
However, they suffer from susceptibility to Localised
Corrosion mostly due to breakdown of passive film.
Very significant number of failures in SS components
are attributed to localized corrosion and occur at weld
or heat affected zone (HAZ).
Learning Objectives: This course is designed to
provide insights of weld-induced localised corrosion
phenomena associated with stainless steels, basic
understanding of metallurgy of stainless steels and test
methods to assess susceptibility to localised corrosion.
The course will be useful for plant engineers involved in
welding of SSs, QA/QC engineers and testing
laboratory personnel engaged in qualification of
corrosion resistance of stainless steels.
