ABSTRACT:In this paper contains the design and construct a bike operated water pump which will be used in
small scale irrigation, garden irrigation and pumping out water from a reservoir. The bike operated pump can be
constructed using local materials and skill. The water pumping system includes a centrifugal pump operated by
bike power. It works on the principle of compression and sudden release of a tube by creating negative pressure in
the tube and this vacuum created draws water from the sump. It provides Irrigation and drinking water where
electricity is not available. It can be built using locally available materials and can be easily adapted to suit the
needs of local people. It frees the user from rising energy costs, can be used anywhere.

INTRODUCTION
Centrifugalpumpisusedtoconvertkineticenergytohydrodynamicenergy.Thetype of kinetic energy is
rotational kinetic energy and the rotational energy typically comes from engine to electric motor. Already
obtained efficiency is not too high so the efficiency of the pump should be increased. So, the different loses
should be reduced. So, the impeller should be modified with micro grooves. The characteristics of smooth
impeller and the grooved impeller should be identified and compared. To evaluate this CFD calculations should
be done and the application of micro geometry in centrifugal pump impeller is done and calculations are made.
The main objective is to increase the efficiency of thepump.
The centrifugal pump definition is, pump which can be used for handling huge amount
ofliquidstoprovideextremelyhighflowrates, andtheyhavethecapabilitytoregulatetheflow of liquid rates over a wide
range. Generally, these pumps are designed for liquids which have a comparatively low viscosity that transfers
like light oil otherwisewater.

LITERATURE REVIEW
A-R Akhras, et Al[1] The unsteadiness of the flow at the leading edge of a vaned diffuser represents a
source of low efficiency and instability in a centrifugal pump. Furthermore, the internal flow of the impeller can
be affected by asymmetric downstream conditions, which results in extra flow unsteadiness and instabilities.
The improvement of machine performances can only be achieved if there is a progress in the comprehension of
the natureofthecomplexflowthatdevelopsatthegapbetweentherotorandthestator.Thispaper presents the results of
LDA investigation of the internal flow of a centrifugal pump equipped with a backswept impeller and a vaned
diffuser. The data taken in phase with the impeller rotation are presented as animated frames reconstituting a
temporal evolution of the flow in radial planes at the diffuser inlet.
Amit Suhane,[2]This article represents experimental study work carried out on a single stage diffuser
type centrifugal pump. The flow-induced pressure pulsations, mechanical vibrations and noise has been
monitored during the experimentations for five different flow rates by varying the radial clearance . Frequency
analysis revealed a good correlation in the
overallvibrationlevelandtheoverallnoiselevel.Inthefrequencyanalysis,pressurepulsations
aredominatingatfundamentalfrequencyandtheimpellervanepassingfrequency.Alsointhe frequency analysis, level
at fundamental frequency dominates the vibration spectra and level at vane passing frequency dominates the
noise spectra. Experimental results show that by increasing the radial clearance between impeller and diffuser,
lower pulsations, vibration and noise levels has beenachieved.
Khin Cho Thin et Al.[3]. This paper deals with the design and performance analysis of centrifugal
pump. In this paper, centrifugal pump is analyzed by using a single-stage endsuction centrifugal pump. Two
main components of a centrifugal pump are the impeller and the casing. The impeller is a rotating component
and the casing is a stationary component. In centrifugal pump, water enters axially through the impeller eyes and
water exits radially. The pump casing is to guide the liquid to the impeller, converts into pressure the high
velocity kinetic energy of the flow from the impeller discharge and leads liquid away of the energy having
imparted to the liquid comes from the volute casing.
ION Abdulnabi.[4], There are five M.O.L. Centrifugal pumps “Main Oil Line” in Ghani oil field for
transporting crude oil from Ghani oil field to Joffra oil field at a distanceof about 81.25 miles (130Km) then
from Joffra oil field to Ras Lanuf Terminal at a distance of
about84.40miles(135Km).Thefivecentrifugalpumpsdonotallhavethesamespecifications. Three of these pumps
have the same power (255 Kw) and are working with five impellers but the other two pumps have the same
power (150 Kw) and are working with siximpellers.

MT Iqbal.,[8].Manual pump is popular among small and marginal farmers of Bangladesh. Amid the
manual pumps, the farmers predominantly use treadle pumps. It was

designed and fabricated at Agricultural Engineering

connected with a crankshaft having a flywheel on one end and a chain sprocket on the other. The crankshaft was
powered through a chain sprocket from the pedalof the bicycle and rotated by the foot of the operator seating on
the seat. The discharge of the designed pedal pump was between 60 and 100 liters per minute, average command
area is 0.2 hectare for 8 hours per day operation, and it could lift water from seven-meter depth. The designed
pedal pump could also lift surfacewater.

Naveenprabhuet al.[11],[12],[13],[15] and [16], stated that the heat transfer during the fluid movement
and in the firing, places are crucial and heat transfer characteristics is depends on the amount of fluid passed over
the nozzle from the tank.
Naveenprabhu et al. [14] and [17], referred that during the running the pump the axle and the bearing
will heated during the friction. That has to considered for the heat transfer of the heat to the machine.
Evaporative cooling will give you the better cooling to the machinery and the reduce the harm of the
effect of firing. In order to improve firefighting characteristics we keep the machinery place cool by the different
cooling methods [19].

Working:
The first step in the operation of a centrifugal pump. Priming is the operation in which suction pipe
casing of the pump and the position fluid with the liquid which is to be pumped so that all the air from the
position of pump is driven out and no air is left.
The back wheel of two-wheeler (prime mover) is touched over the pulley which is mounted on the shaft
of the pump. When the wheel rotates, the pulley also rotates which enables the working of the pump.
