MPU3193 FALSAFAH DAN ISU SEMASA / PHILOSOPHY AND CURRENT ISSUES

E-POSTER ASSIGNMENT & PRESENTATION

SYNOPSIS MODULE

This course covers the relation between philosophy and the National Education Philosophy and
Rukun Negara. Philosophy is used as a tool to refine the culture of thought in life through the
art and methods of thinking as well as through our understanding of the concept of the human
person. Key fields in philosophy, namely epistemology, metaphysics, and ethics, are discussed
in the context of current issues. Emphasis is given to philosophy as the basis for inter-cultural
dialogue and fostering common values. At the end of this course, students will be able to see
the disciplines of study as a comprehensive and integrated body of knowledge.

Among the impact of this course is to encourage students to think deeply about a current issue
that has some impact on human existence as well as to provide an opportunity for students to
work collaboratively in projects aimed at building their knowledge and analytical skills
revolving around the study of the above issue.

1. Express current issues based on philosophical knowledge, the Malaysian National
Education Philosophy, and Rukun Negara. (PLO2, C2)
2. Examine current issues based on the main thought streams in various philosophical
branches. (PLO5, C3C)
3. Classify current issues through comparative philosophical perspectives as a basis for
intercultural dialogue. (POL8, C3F)

THE REQUIREMENTS
You are expected to work in teams of 5-6 members in a group. Your group is required to do
original research / review articles. Each group must choose one of the listed topic:

1. Environmental issues

7. Healthcare
8. Mental health issue
9. Youth
10. Technology
11. Underage vaping culture

E-POSTER ASSIGNMENT (40%)

What is e-poster presentation?


Electronic poster (e-poster) presentations are similar to traditional poster presentations,
but contains of well-constructed poster which is self-explanatory, achieving both coverage and
clarity. Most of the time, e-poster consist of one slide with contended information.

What makes a good poster presentation?


• Title is short and draws interest.
• Word count of about 300 to 800 words.
• Text is clear and to the point.
• Use of bullets, numbering, and headlines make it easy to read.
• Effective use of graphics, colour and fonts.

Preparation of e-poster (kindly check the template provided)


• The poster should be a clear visual presentation of your submitted abstract and should meet
the following criteria:

1. Tittle of the Poster


- It is recommended to keep the title of the poster same as in the submitted abstract.
2. Poster size and format
- Poster must be saved and submitted in PDF format.
- It is recommended to make your poster in PowerPoint (Landscape)
- File format: PDF (one page only)
- In Pixel: 1536 width, 1080 height
- In mm: width 542 mm, height 381 mm
3. Your Information
- The top of the Poster should display, in the lettering of 18 Bold (Times New
Roman), the following information: Title of your Paper, Name(s) of the Author(s)
with TP No in bracket.
4. Lettering
- Kindly use both UPPER- and lower-case letters for general content, as all-capital
text is difficult to read. It is recommended to use 14 Times New Roman font style
for the content of the poster.
- Make sure there is enough contrast between the colour of the text and the poster’s
background.
- Text and presentation should be in ENGLISH only.
5. Content of the Poster
- Make sure that the specific sections (such as the background, methods, results, and
conclusions) are easy to locate in the poster.
- Try to keep the text easy to read and concise. The poster should have a clear
message, a logical layout and be easy to comprehend.
- Avoid the use of full sentences and rather use short text in bullet point format.
- Avoid using watermarks that may detract from the readability of your poster.
6. Illustrations
- Illustrations are the most important part of the poster and will attract the most
attention.
- Colourful charts and graphs are the easiest to read. Explanatory illustrations should
be used instead of text whenever possible.
- Use only static images and do not embed any videos or animation in your poster.
- Try to utilize the space on your poster as creatively as your poster

and make sure that the images are easy to understand.

E-POSTER ASSESSMENT (40%)


(This section is a group assessment)

All group members should play an equal part in the presentation. All members of the group
should be prepared to answer questions on any aspect of the presentation, and will therefore
need to be familiar with the content of all group members. During the presentation, each
member will be assessed on:

a. Language (Accurate, clear and appropriate) 20 marks

4. Design and layout
a. Clear (Conveys title, authors’ names & TP No.) 10 marks
b. Alignment (Headings, columns and graphics are well- (2 marks each
aligned) component)
c. Balance (Content layout is distributed, so it is pleasing to
look at)
d. Headings and fonts (Headings are consistent and well-
used to divide the poster)
e. Interpretability (Figure label and captions allow viewers
to interpret easily)
5. Conclusion (Clearly frame the e-poster purpose) 3 marks
6. References (At least 5 references, using APA-style citation) 2 marks

VIDEO POSTER INDIVIDUAL PRESENTATION (30%)


(This section is individually assessed)

All group members should play an equal part in the presentation. Students are required to record
their video poster presentation. All members of the group should be turn on their camera while
doing their presentation. Each group is advisable to have 20 minutes of video poster
presentation. During the presentation, each member will be assessed on:

1. Knowledge of the topic 10 marks
2. Language proficiency 10 marks
3. Eye contact 10 marks

ASSIGNMENT ASSESSMENT CRITERIA


The criteria below detail the areas, which will be taken into account when the assignment is
marked. Each piece of assessed work will be awarded a percentage between 0 and 100%. The
grades awarded will be marked according to the following criteria:

75% + This would be equivalent to a Distinction and would represent outstanding


performance. The work should show a thorough understanding of the issue
together with a high degree of analysis and critical evaluation.

65 – 74% This will be equivalent to a Credit. This would represent extremely good work
demonstrating an in depth understanding of material and sound analysis and
conclusions.

50 – 64% This would be equivalent to a Pass. Work in this category should demonstrate
good application of the main Principles to the question set and provide a well-
balanced view.

49 – 0% This would represent a failure to pass, demonstrating a poor command of the


knowledge of subject area combined with an inability to interpret the question.
