Severe allergic Rxn to any component of vaccine

Persons with severe allergic Rxn to any vaccine


or injectable therapy (IM, IV, SC) should not receive
Pfizer vaccine
EQUIPMENT AND PREPARATION
BE PREPARED!!!

Needle Size
23 – 25 g
Appropriate sized syringe
1 to 1.5 inches in length: vary on Pt size
Alcohol prep swabs
Bandaids and guaze
EQUIPMENT AND PREPARATION

Prefilled syringes, or multi dose vials


If needed gently invert 10 times: DO NOT SHAKE
If no needle attached, screw on and tighten
securely
If single dose, deliver all
If multi-dose, withdraw and deliver exactly 1 dose
PPE

• Maintain aseptic technique when administering the influenza


vaccine.
• Wash hands prior to beginning vaccine administration process.
• Don appropriate level of PPE
– note: COVID-19 requires additional PPE for vaccinators which
may include: a surgical or N95 mask and eye protection (goggles
or a face shield)
• To prevent syncope, vaccinate patients while they are seated or
lying down
• Cleanse the area of the deltoid muscle with the alcohol prep.

• PPE may include one or more of the following:


• Gloves
• Goggles or face shield
• Face mask (surgical or N95)
• Gown

Insert needle at 90 degree angle


Do not aspirate prior to injection
Inject into muscle - wait a few seconds
Withdraw needle and apply pressure to site
Apply safety to needle and dispose in sharps
container
DO NOT RECAP NEEDLES BY HAND!!!
