Physical education is considered a core program because it helps students develop competence and confidence in physical activities. It also provides a break from academic subjects. Physical activity is essential for daily life as it benefits health by strengthening bones and muscles and reducing disease risk. Cardiorespiratory endurance differs from muscular endurance in that the former involves the circulatory and respiratory systems supplying oxygen to working muscles for long periods, while the latter is a muscle's ability to sustain effort without fatigue. The six skill-related components of fitness are agility, balance, coordination, power, reaction time, and speed, with examples like shuttle runs, skating, dribbling, skip with knee lifts, drop and catch, and sprinting.
