Exam project

3. semester exam - Autumn 2022 - Advanced Digital Development

Project brief
Your client is ‘GreenLead’:
Website: https://www.greenlead.dk

About the project

“If the internet were a country, it would be the sixth most polluting country in the world, with
annual emissions similar to those of Germany”
(Tom Greenwood: Sustainable Web Design, 2021, p. 4)

Sustainable, low-carbon web development and -design will be a part of the careers of
modern web designers and -developers. The energy consumption of the internet and the
production of digital tech is a major problem that truly can be changed by design.

In this project you are going to work within sustainable web design and -development. You
are going to design and develop a sustainable low-carbon website prototype for the client,
while taking care that the website is meeting both client and exam requirements.
The focus concerning sustainability in this project will be environmental, mainly concerning
CO2 emissions a.k.a. carbon footprint.
It is up to you how you will be working with minimizing the carbon footprint of the website,
but you must be able to explain how your design and development choices are supporting
this overall goal.
About the client
(Adapted from their website:)

GreenLead – guiding the green energy transition

GreenLead is a company that specializes in making green visions a reality, partly in
cooperation with investors and also in cooperation with the industry in the transition to
green energy.

GreenLead advises on renewable energy systems. They have a large portfolio of

projects and a broad network of investors. They often work in the empty space between
financing and the project. GreenLead specializes in designing green projects and
describing the project to investors as well as finding the right projects for the right
investor. This means making the green transition a reality.

GreenLead has over the past 10 years worked in a diverse field, from wind turbines,

arctic hydropower, energy storage, waste-to-energy, solar cells, and energy optimization
of plants. The projects range from smaller projects of around 1 million DKK and projects
up to 3 billion DKK.

The problem
GreenLead have during their green transition consultants work discovered that a big part of
making energy transitions becoming a reality, are the people working in the companies.
Green transitions are not just about the right intentions and ample financial resources, but
also about all employees feeling safe and well informed about the impact and consequences
for their daily work and routines.
GreenLead have therefore developed a series of dialogue promoting workshops for the
heads of company and technical staff in supply companies that will help with developing and
clarifying the employee roles and procedures of the green transition of said supply company.

This project will support this exact part of the services of GreenLead

GreenLead would like to describe how they work with people in this above mentioned
workshop format to new customers. They would like to have a website dedicated to
information concerning this particular service. Therefore the main content of the website
should be well edited and constructed customer testimonials in video format.

What is a supply company?

Supply companies are working within gas, electricity, heating, water, sewers, waste
management and sewage management. The companies can be both public or private
companies but should have a certain amount of technical staff in order to have interest in the
workshop service that GreenLead provides (at least 10 employees in the technical
department and at least 50 employees in total throughout the company).
Target groups:
● CEOs and/or heads of department in supply companies (will buy, book and take part
in the workshops)
● Technical staff in supply companies (will take part in the workshops)

GreenLead needs/requirements for the website:

● Workshop video testimonials from (former) customers of all layers of different supply
companies and featured on the website
● Unique website content (video, animation, photo)
● A unique visual identity and graphic elements to match
● A simple website solution that is user friendly for both target groups

Meeting the client

Kick-off
The project is launched with a kick-off event 28/11 from 09:10-14:50. Here, the project itself
is presented by the teacher and the client. GreenLead provides an introduction to the
concept and case. There will also be an important lecture on sustainable web design /
development.

Data collection / workshop visit

GreenLead invites one person pr. group to attend one of their workshops in Korsør on
Tuesday 29/11 from 9:30-13:00 (with lunch). All groups are therefore expected to attend
with at least one person per group (max 6 people in total from all groups; 3 videographers
and 3 interviewers).
You will have the possibility to observe and interview both workshop attendees, members of
the GreenLead management group, take photos and shoot video. You are to share the
material from the workshop between all groups. A drive folder will be created for this
purpose. This material is important for the testimonial content that is the main requirement
for the client. More information concerning time and place in Moodle.

Q&A session
There will be an online Q&A session with the client from 14:30-15:00 on Monday 5/12. All
groups are expected to attend with at least one member each. Find the link in Moodle.

Client pitch
After the first weeks of the project, we are facilitating a client pitch, where the products and
ideas of each exam group are presented to the client. The client provides feedback on your
product(s) and concept(s). All further contact with the client will after this session take place
through the teachers. The client pitch will take place on the 15th of december between
9:00-12:15. All members from all groups are expected to attend.
The presentation will be in the form of a pitch of max 10 mins. The client will have 10 mins
per group for feedback. The groups will only present for the client, one group at the time.
The focus in the pitch should be the client product requirements as described above.

The time schedule of the client pitch can be found in the exam section in the track 2 Moodle
room. The client pitch slide decks with links to your prototypes will be handed over to the
client along with the edited video material for the customer testimonials. You are welcome to
hand over more material to the client at this session if you wish to.

After the pitch session with each group, there will be a joint session for all groups, where the
client would like to hand over a prize for the best solution. The focus here is the client
product requirements as described above. All members from all groups are expected to
attend.

Exam requirements
It is your job to decide which products make the best sense in relation to what you have
learned on track 2 and through researching and working with the case. However, you must
also fulfill the following these 8 minimum product requirements for the exam:

The product:
● Must be designed and coded within a sustainable mindset (minimizing the carbon
footprint)
● Must contain one or more CSS animation elements
● Must be accessible on multiple devices. (Desktop, Tablet, Mobile)
● Must have a unique visual identity, that corresponds to GreenLead and their
customer’s needs
● Must be highly interactive (eg use interaction design elements) and user friendly
● Must show that it solves its use case / user journey
● Must be coded using at least HTML, CSS and JavaScript
● Must contain one or more elements that are using JS server fetch/request. E.g.
element that enables the user to be able to interact with the system (booking, etc)

Remember that track 2 is about advanced digital development. The focus should therefore
primarily be on the development process; planning, designing, coding and documenting. You
should be able to argue for your choices, based on theory, use of tools during the process
and research.

Process- and documentation requirements

You must show relevant process documentation related to your products and results.

● The product must be thoroughly documented and source controlled

● Decide which project / process methodology you use through the project and
document its use.
● You must document and define your target group.
● You must document and define how your solution solves the needs of the target
group.
● You must document your coding cooperation throughout the process and how you
manage the source control.
● The teacher/censor must be able to access the source and product.

Project specifications
Groups
Each group consists of 3-5 people (no more, no less). You must form the groups yourself
with fellow students with whom you are on the same track. If you have not formed groups
yourself, you will be placed in a group by your teachers, unless otherwise agreed.

Exam supervisor

Each group is assigned an exam supervisor who is the sparring partner for the group in
connection with problem formulation, project planning, report writing and collaboration in the
group.

The groups will schedule exact dates and times for supervision meetings in collaboration
with the exam supervisor. Always contact your exam supervisor if there is something the
group does not understand or have questions about. Your exam supervisor is also your
examinator in the exam itself.

Open exam supervision

In addition to your supervisor, several teachers are available for open professional exam
supervision. The teachers and the locations can be found in your schedule. The groups are
themselves responsible for seeking supervision for both questions, help and general
guidance throughout the exam period. See schedule with supervision days and times (or at
the bottom of this document).

Requirements for the written report

The report must document the process and chosen theories, method(s) and tools from the
first, second and especially the third semester curriculum, as described in the study
curriculum (‘studieordningen’), and read through the lecture plans. In the report you must be
able to argue for why you decided to choose or not to choose certain things.

Studieordning 2022 på dansk

Curriculum 2022 in english

of the professional subject areas. Make sure to show and comment on the development
process itself and how you organized it.
The report must be easily understood from an outside, but common professional perspective
and it must document your process and development work. The report must also contain
considerations, reflections, analysis and documentations of and about the realization and
development of the product, including source references.

You must continuously conclude and use findings and conclusions from previous chapters in
the following chapters, so that the entire project presents itself as worked through and
coherent.
