Glenn Miller was a trombonist born in Clarinda, Iowa in March 1st, 1904.
He went missing in 1944.
Him and his very successful orchestra plays mostly swing music/big band music.
He had a band in the air force too.
In high school, Glenn’s band director Elmer wells was one of his first and biggest musical
influencer. He also studied music theory with a man named Joseph Schillinger.

Early on in his career he started to write music and had the opportunity to join Ben
Pollack’s orchestra in the mid 20’s.

He helped write music for Red Nichols, the Dorsey brothers, Benny Goodman, Ray
Noble, and Smith Ballew.
In 1942 Glenn miller Volunteered to join the U.S. military to entertain the troops
during world war two.

He ended up in the air force, leading band performances. He is considered to be


the father of the modern U.S. Military bands.

In his big band/swing band, he made the lead melody a clarinet or tenor sax which
gave him their unique sound.

He wrote the song “In The Mood” witch did become a jazz standard later on.
