The case question for Nintendo is:

What should Nintendo's CEO due strategically to build sustainable competitive advantage and

continue the growth generated by their Wii disruptive

To begin with, Nintendo is a company which has been fully operational for many years since its

first inception in 1889. This means that a lot of changes have occurred in terms of management

and ways in which the company is run as well as introduction of systems and procedures which

were not there while it was starting. This are things which either make the company more

successful or those which lead to more deterioration. This is something which has called for

more changes and this means that a lot of alterations have been to ensure that there is creation of

a bigger market.

One of the ways that the company made use of as a way to create new devices which would be

used as control devices which for instance the DS took the first pilot idea. This is something

which was a lot more different from the usual since there was introduction of a double screen

which would stand as well. It later on brought about the introduction of the Nintendo WI-FI

connection which was such an innovative way which allowed users to play through wireless

network.

The Wii happened to be one of the most impressive introductions to the company since this was

something which resembled a TV controller and gamers could easily navigate the system by

simply moving their controller. It positioned this machine as one which puts smiles on the

surrounding people’s faces which would encourage more communication between family

members where everyone found something relevant to turn on the console and enjoy every day.

The Wii is something which contained great features such as self-made videos which would be

shared through YouTube and social networking sites. Currently, the world is having a lot of

people connected to YouTube and social media sites. This is one of the main things that

Nintendo should aim at properly reaching out their market and even expanding to regions where

they have not managed to get a breakthrough. Through the features that the Wii had, the

company can additionally ensure that there is more advertisement made in favor of the company

and in addition to that create more mass media. This is in fact something which places them at a

better position when we compare this to what competing companies such as Sony or Microsoft

have.

Secondly, the company could also get sustainable competitive advantage by using the

combination of on-screen action with physical exercise. Exergaming is this combination and its

something which would require the users to act out all the physical movements that are involved

in games such as bowling, golf, as well as baseball and tennis.
