REVIEW (your own performance.)

What went well; Discuss briefly 3 things that you feel went well during the Interview
portion. (your performance) [9 marks]
Based on my performance, I think what went well during the interview is that I showed

enthusiasm for the job. Even though I have no professional working experience in the marketing

work field before, I am still genuinely interested in the job scope. I realised that being enthusiastic

can help me create a positive atmosphere during the interview.

Secondly, I also have relevant experience for the marketing role. I was the head of the

marketing department in the national conference of AIESEC in Malaysia for 6 months. I think my

past experiences have increased my self-esteem during interviews and I am able to be more

comfortable in talking about my accomplishments. While I was answering the interview questions,

I was able to use my past working experiences to demonstrate my knowledge of the job and provide

evidence that I have performed similar tasks before.

Lastly, I was confident throughout the interview. Based on my past experiences, I believe

that my abilities and current skill set can handle the job responsibilities effectively. Even though

sometimes the interview question is unexpected, I was still able to appear calm. I think showing

confidence makes me more likely to be assertive, and I did not show panic or stress emotion

throughout the interview session.

Areas for development; Briefly Discuss 3 things that you feel could be some areas for
change/ development (of your performance) [9 marks]
Firstly, my performance can be even better if I have a better Wi-Fi connection. The weak

Wi-Fi connection has caused interruptions and disruptions during the interview. There are several

times we experienced dropped calls and frozen screens during the interview. In the end, we even

conduct the interview with screen off. Hence, it was very difficult for both of us to maintain a

smooth flow of conversation. Besides, it also leads to a couple of misunderstandings when I try to

answer and understand the interviewer’s questions. Even though it was a technical problem but it

<Wong Yan Xin & B1900964> Page 4 of 12

677961846.docx

may be perceived as a lack of professionalism or preparation to the interviewer.

Next, the area that I can improve is to be more prepared regarding my past experiences'

achievement. When I was sharing the contributions that I had made in the past, I can only provide a

general articulation of my achievements. Instead of storytelling my past story I should focus more

on elaborate the impact and that data that could prove that my contribution was impactful and

effective. Hence, I did not manage to portray the ability to translate my efforts into meaningful

results, which might fail to show a clear picture of what I contributed to my organization.

Lastly, I think the area I can develop more is my presenting skills. During the interview I

realised that I was not fluent enough in presenting my idea. There are a few times where the

interviewer needs to add on a couple of follow-up questions then just can fully understand my idea.

Even though it might not affect much on showing my knowledge of marketing roles, it might be a

deductible point towards my interpersonal skills.

INTERVIEWER’S FEEDBACK
Please briefly discuss 2 points from the Interviewer’s Feedback [5 marks]

Based on the interviewer's feedback, my strength is being aware in team dynamics and

knowing how to extract talent within the team for optimal results. I used to struggle in bonding

close relationship with my members, there is only one-way communication between us. I realised

that they complete the task based on my instruction only. However, I wish to hear from their

perspective as well, knowing that this situation is not good for their learning development. Hence,

after I consulted my team leader, I was able to build a strong rapport with my members and

motivated them to go for higher role. I think this feedback is a huge acknowledge for me to be a

team leader.

Furthermore, the interviewer also provided feedback regarding my cover letter. She

mentioned my written communication skills is one of my strengths because I was able to structure

cover letters to frame intent and flow, focus on interest, relevance to organization as well as

contribution. However, she also suggested that I need to take note on the strengths I mentioned

<Wong Yan Xin & B1900964> Page 5 of 12

677961846.docx

because when I mentioned that my strengths are detail-oriented, I made a typo in my cover letter

which is slightly contrast with what I said. Hence, I should be more concerned in my words and

double check everything before I submit.

Discuss briefly 2 points you had clarified with the Interview-panel [5 marks]
Firstly, I get clarification regarding the detailed job description of marketing executives. I

used to think that the job scope of this role is about managing social media and creative content

ideas. However, after the clarification, I got to know that this role also needs to be handled in

organising marketing events, class enrolment and liaising with event stakeholders.

Next, I also get clarification regarding the way I structure my answer during interview, the

way that I present my idea seems less likely to get interviewer attention and it might slightly hard

from interviewer to understand my contribution, so the I ask clarification with my interviewer in

term on how to make my idea stand out. Then she suggested that I need to highlight what kind of

benefit I can contribute to the company and what impact I can make for them.

LEARNING: Discuss 3 things you have learned from this exercise? This could include
insights, changes in perception/feeling towards the process, knowledge gained etc.
[12 marks]
Firstly, the thing I have learned from this exercise is that numbers speak volume.

Throughout the interview exercise, I realised that sharing experience is not enough to show the

good work that I have done because storytelling only can show the superficial level of my action.

Even though I mentioned that I had created awareness to the public, data or results is the most

direct way to prove that my work is applicable and it will sound more legit and persuasive to the

interviewer. Instead of spending a long time to explain my story, I should emphasise more on what

are the changes that I have brought to the company or organisation. I learnt that demonstrating

impact is the key to show my capacity and it will be easier for me to stand out among the

candidates.

Next, I think after the exercise I have less confusion and anxiety about getting a job. When

it was getting closer to my graduation, I used to be very anxious and panic about securing a job. I

worried that I might not qualify enough, not skilful enough or even not experience enough to get

<Wong Yan Xin & B1900964> Page 6 of 12

677961846.docx

the job I desire. There are so many things I was afraid of and was so not ready to put myself out

there. However, I am getting more clear about the direction of my career path throughout the

process of this exercise. I think I sorted out what I want for my further career and I also noticed

what kind of I still need to be improved. I think it helps me in organising my thoughts and clearing

my confusion in terms of the way to secure a job.

Lastly, I got better insight towards marketing roles. Based on my past experience, I used to

think that designing a good poster, create good content ideas is the main key to attract my target

audience. However, marketing is not just about being creative in promoting ideas, it is also required

to be aware about the market trend, pricing strategies, and liaise with external partners. My past

experiences only allowed me to expose myself in creating content ideas, but this exercise let me

realise that there is actually way more than that. Hence, this exercise has wider my perspective and

I have better understanding towards the role and responsibility of being a marketer.

DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Based on the feedback received from your Interviewer and your own reflections/insights,
please complete the following

Goals (Goals should ideally follow the SMART criteria– Specific, Measurable,
Achievable/Attainable, Relevant/Realistic, and Time-bound). Please write about your Long
Term Goal (1 goal). [10 marks]
Specific

Within 6 months, I hope to be promoted to a marketing position with more managerial

responsibility, which would still allow me to communicate with external stakeholders while

supporting the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Measurable

Every week, I will approach at least two companies which are open for marketing positions.

Meanwhile, I will evaluate my performance based on the interviewer’s feedback.

Achievable/ Attainable

I have been a head of the marketing team in AIESEC’s national conference for 2022 and 2023, so I

have related working experience in the marketing field.

Relevant

I have a strong creative side and an interest in visual arts. It can also bring me a huge sense of

achievement if seeing my marketing plans can contribute to the growth of business. Besides, it is

also a very social career which could grow my network in the workplace. Hence, I think my past

experience combined with my education really solidified marketing as one of my career of choice

Time-bound

I will graduate in July 2023, so I need to start my research and secure a desirable job right after I

graduate from HELP University.

Top 3 Strengths [15 Strategies to enhance them

marks]
1.Team management Make transparency a priority among the team. Effective

communication in a team especially in marketing is very important

because it is important to understand customer needs and make sure

<Wong Yan Xin & B1900964> Page 8 of 12

677961846.docx

that our idea is aligned with stakeholder’s value. Hence, it is very

essential that everyone is on the same page and makes things clear.

Besides, I will also give recognition for my team members, not just

achieving but also for those who are doing and completing the task.

2. Planning skills I would like to enhance this skill by making sure my plan is

applicable. It is good to have ideas that are out of box, but I need to

be more considerate regarding some reality factors. Try to make

sure the plan is possible to execute.

3. Creativity & Designing I would expose myself with more artistic stuff and put myself in a

different environment to feel the different culture and different

perspectives. Meanwhile I can also practice more during free time

and keep those outcomes as my collection or inspiration for future.

Top 3 Areas for Strategies to overcome them

Development [15 marks]
1. Detail-oriented Be more aware of my time arrangement, try to avoid last minute

tasks so that I can have more time to double check my work.

Besides, break all the big project to small task so I can narrow my

attention and be more precise in every single detail.

2. Design hard I will take course and learn from online tutorial to improve my
skill/software
design hard skills such as Photoshop and Adobe.

3. Prone to burnout Learn to speak up my needs and ask help from others when I feel

stressed or overwork. Besides, I also need to find a way to distress

my emotions such as exercise or writing a journal so the feeling of

burnout can be reduced.
