circle who are aware of your goals.
You may even seek the help of fellow
entrepreneurs, some of whom will be
ready to offer advice and show you
ways to overcome the hurdles during
this phase.
LEARNING TASK 3:

ESSAY
Almost anyone can develop the qualities necessary to succeed as an
entrepreneur. To illustrate, consider this question.

Who among the following is the most successful entrepreneur? Choose at least two
number. Explain.

1. A 35-year-old farmer who has owned a two-hectare pineapple plantation for 10 years,
makes just enough to get by, but loves what he is doing, and calls everyone in the
barangay a friend.
2. A 30-year-old CEO of a software firm who works 70 hours a week, stays stressed, never
sees his family, but makes five million pesos in revenue per year.
3. A 35-year-old single mom who makes money online with internets, and gets to spend all
the time she wants with her kids.
4. A 22-year-old college dropout who created a few websites that he manages a few
hours per week and now makes enough to travel the world, spends time with friends and
family, and pursues his favorite hobbies.

Being successful varies on every person especially on ourselves. We are the only ones
who will tell if we are successful enough, if we already reached our goals, if we are
already satisfied with what we are and what we have now. This can be applied to
entrepreneurship, as success is a subjective thought, we would be the only ones to
dictate ourselves if we are already successful. So, if I am to choose on these four scenarios
who are the most successful, of course, those who earn more profit. From an academic
view, I would choose those two who earn more profit. I’m not saying that those who I will
not choose are not successful, as what I’ve said, we are all entitled to our success, maybe
success means to other entrepreneurs that it is having enough salary to make enough for
living, and still having time for personal things like family and hobbies. But as I have no
idea about the feelings of these people given, I’m will look at the technical side of
entrepreneurship, as its main essence is to earn profit, I would choose those who earn
more profit as the MORE successful ones.
The two people I find the most successful as an entrepreneur and not only as a
person are:

The 30-year-old CEO of a software firm who works 70 hours a week, stays stressed, never
sees his family, but makes five million pesos in revenue per year
-Out of the four, I think he is the most successful as an entrepreneur. He earns a big
amount of money, five million pesos as his revenue per year. I would not question
him stressing himself on work. It’s all good stress, according to experts, stress is a
burst of energy that basically advises you on what to do. In small doses, stress has
many advantages. For instance, stress can help you meet daily challenges and
motivates you to reach your goals. In fact, stress can help you accomplish tasks
more efficiently. It can even boost memory and cognitive skills. I think good stress
and hard work is even the reason why he became a CEO of a software firm. Stress is
key for survival, but too much stress can be detrimental. Emotional stress that stays
around for weeks or months can weaken the immune system and cause high blood
pressure, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and even heart disease. It's clear that he
doesn’t have much emotional stress because he keeps working for almost 10 hours
a day. He constantly strives hard because he is already a CEO. His success is the
success of the whole firm, of the employees and staff that depend on the firm.
Maybe for him, the meaning of true success for him is being on the top of the
software firms of the country, bringing the company’s name and the employees
with him. To do this, I think he is extremely happy and passionate when he works
and that he finds his happiness inside his firm. However, never seeing his family is not
a good idea. Maybe sometimes, he should take time to visit his family and give time
for his personal life to even release some stress. But if his family is overseas, keeping
in touch on the internet may be more than enough to keep his relationship with his
family. Nevertheless, he may not have the best life because of his occupied time,
but I still consider him as the most successful among the four, he sacrifices his own
time to work 70 hours per week and even sacrifices to not see his own family, he all
did that at just the age of 30.

The 22-year-old college dropout who created a few websites that he manages a few
hours per week and now makes enough to travel the world, spends time with friends and
family, and pursues his favorite hobbies.
-I think this man is the most successful person in life among the four entrepreneurs.
He is a successful entrepreneur as he earns a great amount of money just like the
CEO because he manages the websites all by himself. Not to mention that he has
enough earnings to travel the world and pursue his hobbies which requires a
considerable amount of money. He also spends time for his personal life as he
travels, bond with his family, and pursue his hobbies just like the 35-year-old single
mom who makes money online with internets, and gets to spend all the time she
wants with her kids. They are both happy and contented in their business life and
personal life. He also enjoys his job as he even dropped out on college just to
pursue it just as how the 35-year-old farmer who has owned a two-hectare
pineapple plantation for 10 years, makes just enough to get by, but loves what he is
doing, and calls everyone in the barangay a friend. They are both passionate
regardless of how much they earn. This 22-year-old man, at a young age, is already
successful in his business life as well as his personal life.

LEARNING TASK 4:

RESEARCH ME
Research on the life story of at least three (3) entrepreneurs in your locality; identify
how they started their business. Ask how much their start-up capital; problems they
encountered and how they able to surpassed those problems?

ANGELA’S BAKERY (Angela Muzon)

Start-up capital: Almost P 5,000 as many things like the oven and baking tools are
given to her by her family.
Problems encountered: Competitors are her main problem as she started her
bakery because she built it on a place where there are already bakeries, more
trusted by customers.
How they surpassed the problem: She moved to her mom’s family place, in our
barangay where bakeries are a bit far away from some areas in our barangay.

DANNY’S MEAT SHOP (Danny Angeles)

Start-up capital: Almost P 12,000
Problems encountered: Competitors and quality of meat
How they surpassed the problem: He had to get another supplier even from farther
place than before to ensure meat quality which made his business attract more
and more customer and his meat shop is one of the most popular in our local
market
KUYA DONG’S SARI-SARI STORE (Carlos Dizon)
Start-up capital: Almost P 8,000, he started with only a simple sari-sari store, now he
is even selling more goods such as fresh vegetables and frozen foods. His store is
almost complete with fresh and good quality products to fill up the needs of
customers
Problems encountered: Managing the store, competitors, products, low income
How they surpassed the problem: He moved on to the local market and shifted
from a classic sari-sari store to a store with vegetables and other goods. He made
sure his products and goods are of high quality especially the vegetables and rice.
To manage the store better and the rising number of customers, he had to employ
some helpers to help him.

REFLECTION:

In a separate sheet of paper, write your personal insights about the lesson using the
prompts below.

I understand that entrepreneurs have different types, there are common competencies and core
competencies they must acquire to become a successful entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship even
offers career opportunities for those interested to pursue it.

I realize that entrepreneurship isn’t just purely about earning profit. Being successful means you are
happy and contented with what you have now. Knowing that you achieved your goals, being
happy with what you are doing and being able to spend time with your family is also part of being
a successful entrepreneur.

I need to learn more about the practical application of these competencies of an entrepreneur
to real life.
