Jesus the Light of the World

Light has come into this dark world, and we need never walk in darkness again. John
chapter one tells us who Jesus was before Creation and who He is today. “The Word” in
this passage refers to Him:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him; and
without Him, nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was
the light of men. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness did not
comprehend it… That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming
into the world. (John 1:1-5, 9)

Light is a wonderful picture of Jesus. 

"In Him was life, and the life was the light of men" (John 1:4). 

John 8:12, NIV: When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of
the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light
of life.
