Analysis Figurative Language in Frank Sinatra song “New York New York”

New York, New York has released by Frank Sinatra in 26th March 1980. This song has made by
John Kander and wrote by Fred Ebb. This song talking about a man who worked in Entertainment
industry, who left his hometown and try his luck in the big city.

After I listened New York New Yok song by Frank Sinatra, I conclude that Frank Sinatra uses
some figurative language in this song to help this song come together and make it sound good,
such as: Hyperbole and Personification.
The first: Personification and Hyperbole “I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps” the
meaning of this lyric in my opinion: the big city is represent of New York city that always shining
and charming in the night.
The second: Personification “These vagabond shoes They are longing to stray” the meaning of this
lyric in my point of view, a man who left his hometown and try his luck in a big city to getting job
in entertainment industry. He will be famous one whatever challenge and obstacles in front of him,
he will face it till the end.
The last: Personification and Hyperbole “These small town blues They are melting away” the
meaning of this lyric in my opinion: Small town blues represent about hometown that bored place
to live, and Melting away is represent about the atmosphere in the hometown is quite place, its
different with New York that a lot of people gather, whether to visit or looking some job.
