This project only has the features stated earlier implemented within a limited amount of area, which is only

inside a
terrarium. But this can be used as a starting guide if you want to employ these systems of sensors in a larger area. It is
already declared that the three sensors will be used as a monitoring system for the terrarium, and that is what the
project mainly focuses on. The data that will be gathered from the sensors will be used mainly for monitoring and
notification purposes only. The researchers were not able to provide actuation for the system due to lack of enough time
since providing such a feature will require a lot of effort and a great deal of understanding of control system mechanisms.
The researchers were not able to provide a feedback loop for the data gathered such that it can be used further to adjust
the overall status of the terrarium in the three aspects we’re interested in; CO2 and TVOC level, lighting, and structural
positioning.

Upon gathering the data and transmitting it to the cloud through the Wi-Fi module, note that the data that reflects on
the cloud is not actually real-time or instantaneously obtained from the sensors. This is due to the 15 seconds delay that
is present when using ThingSpeak. This is another limitation of this project, as it can further develop into different
problems such as when the user requires real-time data for some specific uses. But the researchers came up with a
solution for this limitation which will be discussed further in the Methodology section.

The main purpose of this implementation of the IoT sensor system is that the user will be able to monitor the plants
inside the terrarium anywhere or anytime. But during the deployment stage of the sensors, the researchers weren’t able
to provide real and actual plants to test the system on. Having an actual plant during the deployment stage is optional
since what we want to do is test the sensors during extreme situations. The concept of extreme situations will differ
among the three sensors, and this will be further discussed in the sensor characterization part of the Methodology
chapter. Having a plant during testing with extreme conditions can be harmful to the plants used, thus it is decided to
just don’t use an actual one during the deployment period. Lastly, to test for extreme conditions, the researchers need to
come up with a creative way to do it, since the researchers weren’t able to deploy the sensors and the terrarium in other
environments except that of the EEE premises, and only a specific room assigned to the group. That also serves as a
limitation for this project.
