REFLECTION: Justice Theory

John Rawls was highly regarded and one of the 20th century’s most significant
political philosophers. His idea of justice is a mainspring of the modern political
philosophy. According to him, a just society is among which rudimentary freedoms
are upheld and equal distribution of opportunities to the mass. Also contends social
and economic discrepancy can only be justified if its beneficial to those intended to
be benefited.
In today’s sociopolitical issues and challenges, such as gender equality, racial
discrimination, and more makes the veil of ignorance a potent tool and for us, we can
utilize it to our favor. For example, we can visualize a rationalize group of people that
tries to maximize their own interests yet uninformed of their own gender nor race,
and if were to imply the veil of ignorance to the matter. They would recognize that
historical injustices had resulted to the creation of discrepancies in opportunities, and
also affirmation of action policies are important and necessary in order to address the
given discrepancies and in order to promote diversity with other people and within
ourselves.
In conclusion, John Rawl’s theory of justice as well as his concept of the veil
of ignorance are commendable and effective means or instruments for addressing
sociopolitical concerns. With this we can create a more just and equally bound society.
