Module 1
AMT 2202
INTODUCTION:
This topics are continuation of topics from Midterm Lecture on servicing of Aircraft System. Fan Cowl
opening, main landing gear servicing, landing gear doors are the main topics of this module. This will
give the student knowledge on servicing on those areas.

Precaution:
• Put a noting notice ‘ Do not Start The Engine’. Make sure that the engine has been shut down at
least 5 minutes and must be on a OFF position.
• On the panel, ENG 1 and ENG 2 button are switched OFF and install a warning notice.
• Make sure that the Slats are retracted and install a warning notice.
• The Fan cowl and Thrust Reverser Cowl Door can be opened for maintenance inspection.
DO NOT ATTEMPT THE FAN COWL DOORS IF THE WIND SPEEDS ARE MORE THAN 65 KNOTS OR THE
ENGINE IS RUNNING
Servicing:
✓ Unlock the three latches on the center line. For each line, push the latch naps to release the
handle.
✓ Pull the Latch Handles until the Latch Hooks releases to its keeper.
✓ Manually lift and support the door at the lower edge.
✓ Two Holden Rods are located inside the Fan Cowl Door.
✓ When the fan cowl doors are opened, the accessories mounted on the fan case are now
accessible.
Each Landing Gears are hydraulically operated and electrically controlled. Each Landing gear has
hydraulic and mechanically operated doors and has a shock absorber.
The moving parts and dirty environment of the landing gear make this an area of regular maintenance.
Because of the stresses and pressures acting on the landing gear, inspection, servicing, and other
maintenance becomes a continuous process. The most important job in the maintenance of the aircraft
landing gear system is thorough accurate inspections. To properly perform inspections, all surfaces
should be cleaned to ensure that no trouble spots are undetected.
✓ shock struts
✓ trunnion and brace assemblies and bearings
✓ shimmy dampers
✓ wheels
✓ wheel bearings
✓ tires
✓ brakes
Landing Gear Doors are hydraulically and electrically controlled. The mechanically operated doors and
linked to the Landing Gear strut and moves with the gear.
The main landing gear doors are located in the lower part of the center fuselage. They have: two main
doors, hinged to the two
longitudinal boxes of the
keel beam, two hinge doors
and two leg fairing doors.
All doors are made of
composite construction,
including carbon fiver skins.
CARGO DOORS
The lower deck is divided into three (3) cargo compartments doors installed on the left hand side of
fuselage. The forward and aft cargo doors are also aluminum alloy structures. This structures as
✓ Skins
✓ Edge Members
✓ Corner pieces
✓ Horizontal beams
✓ Vertical Frames
The bulk cargo door is a plug type, opening inside the fuselage. The primary structure of bulk cargo door
is made of aluminum alloy. This structure has skins, edge members, and horizontal beams.
WASTE SERVICING
The Potable Water System supplies the water from the water tank through a distribution systems to the
users. The users are the water faucets in the galley and lavatories and the vacuum toilet units. A water
heater is installed under the wash basin in each toilet unit to supply hot water to the water tap.
The Potable Water System is pressurized by the bleed air system. A compressor (optional) can be
installed to isolate any galley or lavatory.
In A320, the Potable Water System can be serviced with or without electrical power available. The A320
has one water servicing panel and due to water tank location two drain servicing panels.
During toilet flushing, the waste from the toilet bow is sent under the effect of cabin differential
pressure to the under floor waste holding tank. Waste holding tank servicing is done from the toilet
servicing panel. On ground and in flight below 16,000 ft., a vacuum generator is used to generate the
necessary delta pressure.
The overall toilet system operation, monitoring and fault indication are controlled by the Vacuum
System Controller (VSC) or by the Vacuum System Controller Function (VSCF) in enhanced cabin.
Flushing
When the flush switch is pressed, the Flush Control Unit (FCU) initiated the flush sequence. The rinse
valve and the flush valve open in sequence, controlled by the FCU, to evacuate the waste material. At
the same time, the FCU sends signal to the VSC which will operate the vacuum generator.
The vacuum generator makes the necessary differential pressure between the cabin and the waste
holding tank to move the waste from the toilet bowl. Above 16,000 ft. the VSC will stop the vacuum
generator.
The VSC controls and monitors the Vacuum Toilet System and it is connected to the Centralized Fault
Display System (CFDS). On aircraft fitter with enhanced cabin systems, a VSCF integrated in monitors
the vacuum toilet system. It is connected to the CFDS.
Module Assessment

punctuation
15% Use of own words, except where directly quoting from another source
10% Organization of material into a coherent structure: introduction, argument
and evidence, conclusion
Honesty Clause
