Good morning 8E,

I am here today, to shed light and take action on a critical social justice issue that demands our
attention: Indigenous land rights in Australia. This issue addresses the historical and ongoing
dispossession of land from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, a fundamental
injustice that has stained our nation's history.

Imagine, for a moment, being forcefully removed from the land that has been your home for
thousands of years. Imagine watching your sacred sites desecrated, your cultural practices
disregarded, and your connection to the land killed. This is the reality faced by Indigenous
communities across Australia due to colonisation and discriminatory policies that stripped them
of their ancestral lands.

Allow me to share a brief anecdote from Archie Roach "I remember walking out of the bush, and
this old fella said, 'You're walking in our footsteps, son, and we don't want you to forget that.'
This anecdote is a reminder of the deep emotional and spiritual scars inflicted by the denial of
Indigenous land rights.

The impact of this issue is profound and far-reaching. When Indigenous land rights are denied
or limited, it undermines their cultural identity, well-being, and self-worth. It suppresses their
ability to protect sacred sites and engage in traditional practices. The pain and loss experienced
by Indigenous peoples cannot be undone, but it is our responsibility to listen, learn, and act.

Moreover, acknowledging and supporting Indigenous land rights contributes to the economic
development of our nation as a whole. It promotes the reputation of our country, opens doors to
tourism, and allows for employment within Indigenous communities. By recognising the value of
Indigenous knowledge and practices in land and resources, we can build a more prosperous
future.

Now is the time for action. Let us come together to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions,
and advocate for policies that recognize and protect Indigenous land rights. By using our
collective voices, we can create a groundswell of support, listening and acting on this injustice.

I urge each and every one of you to join this movement. Engage in conversations, attend
community events, and share the stories and struggles of Indigenous communities.
Together, we can build a society that honours and upholds the rights of Indigenous peoples, a
society that cherishes the sacred bond between land and culture. By advocating for Indigenous
land rights, we are fostering a future where diversity is celebrated and where social justice
prevails.

Thank you.
